While caves just get adjusted slightly, mountain generation in Minecraft 1.18 faces a total overhaul, with lifelike slopes and new types of biomes added. In this article, we are going to list out all the new mountain biomes in Minecraft 1.18 update.

1. Meadow

This beautiful biome is the biggest candidate for base building. It is a grassy biome filled with patches of flowers and grass. Meadows are usually found at the base of mountains where they cross with plains biomes. Oak and birch trees have a small chance to spawn here, but when they do, there's a 100% chance to find a bee nest.

Both pillager outposts and plains villages can generate in this biome - it is the only mountain biomes that villages can spawn in. Passive mobs like rabbits, donkeys, and sheep spawn here as well.

2. Grove

Groves are usually generated on the slopes of snow mountains. It usually has forests of spruce trees and is covered in slow blocks. Players can find powdered snow and snow blocks here. The dominant mobs of this biome are wolves, with passive mobs like sheep, rabbits, foxes, chickens, cows, and pigs also spawning.

Overall, Grove is an excellent biome for a mountainous base.

3. Snowy Slopes

Snowy slopes are a barren biome with multiple layers of snow blocks and powder snow, alongside stone cliffs. Only goats and rabbits spawn here and this is also the only mountain biome where igloos can generate. Players can find snowy slopes near plains and snowy tundras.

4. Jagged Peaks

One of the three peak biomes in the game, the Jagged Peaks only generates on the top of tall mountains. It is likely to be part of mountains with more jagged and pointy peaks, which sometimes can even reach y=256.

Jagged peak is hard to get to, however, players who managed to reach it are rewarded with a lot of ores. The biome is covered by a single layer of snow blocks with stone underneath often exposing ores such as coal, iron and emerald. Only goats spawn here.

5. Frozen Peaks

Unlike jagged peaks, frozen peaks are just snow and ice only. It is the coldest out of all 6 new biomes in Minecraft 1.18 update and generates ice, packed ice, and snow. The only mob that spawns here are goats. Players can find Frozen peaks on smaller mountains near snowy, cold and temperate biomes.

6. Stony Peaks

Stony peak is the third variant of mountain biomes, containing calcite strips, stone, and mounds of gravel. It has a high chance of spawning near warmer biomes like jungles or savannas. Players can find no animal mobs here outside goats. The grass and foliage in this biome have a unique vibrant light green tint.
