Downgrading is the act of loading a world in an older version than the version of that world last loaded. Players can use this to try out certain removed features such as items and mobs. It is prudent to make a backup of your Minecraft world prior to downgrading, as it might cause the world to corrupt or crash.
In this article, Gurugamer is going to showcase a complete guide on how to downgrade a Minecraft world to an older version.
1. Step-by-step guide to downgrade your world
Preparation
Firstly, if you have any item you don't want to lose, store them in an unloaded chunk so that they won't get deleted by the game. Avoid places with newer blocks, items, biomes or structures, as the game will get confused and delete the newer additions (as they didn't exist yet in those older versions).
Set your render distance to the lowest, and go around 200 blocks away from spawn.
How to Downgrade a Minecraft world
- Create a backup of your world.
- Open the Minecraft Launcher and click on the Installations tab.
- Click New to open up the Edit Installation tab then enter the name you wish to use for the new version. Select the preferred version from the dropdown menu.
- Go back to the main menu, and select the drop down box to select the new version of the game you wish to use.
- Press Play. If done correctly, the world will load when you start it up.
You might need to downgrade multiple times if the version you want does not appear in the world selection menu. For example, if you're on version 1.19 and want to get infinite enchanted golden apples, don't directly downgrade the world to version 1.8. You will need to downgrade to 1.13-1.15 first.
What happens when you downgrade a world?
Any loaded chunks in the world update to the new chunks.
Any blocks, items, entities, enchantments, effects, particles, sounds, biomes, banner patterns and advancements that don't exist in that version are removed from the world.
2. What are the benefits of downgrading?
Before 1.9, players can craft enchanted golden apples. By downgrading, it is possible to craft a huge amount of apples, then upgrade back to normal.
From 1.14 to 1.14.2, it is possible to get "god armor" a maxed-out armor set with all types of Protection. It was removed from the game after 1.14.2.
Use various duplication glitches that were patched out in later versions, but are still working in older versions.
3. How to get God Armor in Minecraft
In version 1.14.2, players can apply all Protection enchantments on an armor. Firstly, get all the pieces of Diamond armor and enough books for all protection enchantments. Downgrade your world, then combine four Protection enchantments in one book and enchant an armor piece with that book. Once enchanting is done, players can switch back to the latest Minecraft version.
After moving back to the latest Minecraft version, players can then upgrade diamond armor to netherite using a smithing table and netherite ingots.
With this process, players would be able to get "God armor" that holds all the Protection enchantments. Keep in mind that protection effects have a cap of 80% damage reduction, so it is still possible to die from various types of damage.
