There's a wide variety of food items in Minecraft. Some of them only restore your hunger bar, while others can go for an awful lot of uses. We call these the "utility" food items. And the Glistering Melon Slice falls to the second category. You cannot eat it straight away, but it's the essential ingredient to brew potions of healing. They will come in very handy when fighting bosses!
Here's what you need to make one in Minecraft.

Mundane Potion
Mundane Potion is the base potion need to brew all kinds of potions in Minecraft. Being a base potion, it won't have any effects on players. In order to brew a Mundane Potion, place your Glistering Melon Slice and a Water bottle into the Brewing Stand.
Potion of Healing
A bottle of Healing Potion will restore players' health bar immediately upon consumption. Level 1 potion will replenish 4 hearts, while a level 2 bottle instantly replenishes 8 hearts. It's an incredibly helpful potion to brew in preparation for an extended boss fight, say fighting the Ender Dragon or killing The Wither.

- Awkward Potion (Base potion) x1
Place them both into the Brewing Stand to start crafting. It's just simple as that!
