A Final Fantasy 16-style remake for Final Fantasy 12 would strike a balance between classic and new franchise titles.]]>

Final Fantasy 16 brought about significant changes to the Final Fantasy franchise. It not only introduced a focus on single-character action combat but also limited exploration to plot and side quest-related instances. Moreover, its stylized photorealistic graphics allowed for on-screen depictions of darker sequences, surpassing the capabilities of less technologically-advanced entries.

The advancements made in Final Fantasy 16 lend themselves perfectly to recreating specific elements of other Final Fantasy games. Among them, Final Fantasy 12 appears particularly well-suited for a 16-style remake. Both games strike a harmonious balance between grounded and fantastical elements, exploring themes of revenge, infernal intervention, and atonement. By introducing characters of equal importance to the main narrative, like Ashe, this remake could successfully blend classic and new aspects of the Final Fantasy series.

1. Character Action Combat

Final Fantasy 16 introduced a significant departure from traditional Final Fantasy games by adopting a true action RPG combat system instead of Active Time Battle (ATB) or Real-Time Battle (RTB). Designed by Ryota Suzuki, the combo-heavy combat system allowed players of all skill levels to excel in fights.

Character Action Combat Clive Fighting Vs Balthier
Character Action Combat

In relation to Final Fantasy 12, its Active Dimension Battle (ADB) system seamlessly fits into this character action combat style. The freedom of motion and various styles available to Clive can easily be translated to any party member in FF12. This opens up opportunities for players to switch characters more frequently, chaining unique combos together, or finding a playstyle that suits them best.

2. Gambits

In FF16, the ability to control party members or issue commands to them was removed, leaving them under complete AI control when they join Clive's party. While they possess cool abilities and attacks, they don't play a significant role in combat and deal mediocre damage, particularly against staggered enemies.

A potential FF12 remake could restore the feeling of companions being true party members again. Reintroducing Gambits would enable players to create satisfying combat strategies that align well with the character action combat style. With the involvement of developers like Creative Business Unit III (CBUIII), Gambits could be further enhanced to be more powerful and responsive to player needs.

3. Party System

In Final Fantasy 16, Clive took the spotlight in both combat and the plot, with players being able to control him exclusively in battles. This approach was in line with the game's "Chosen One" narrative and limited the presence of other party members.

Young Clive Rosfield With Young Jill And Puppy Tor
Party System

In contrast, Final Fantasy 12 is more of an ensemble game, with various characters contributing to the story. Reinstating the ability to control party members in a remake would allow players to experience individual plot threads in a more fulfilling manner. This shift would ensure that crucial moments, such as Basch confronting Noah, Balthier fighting Venat, and Fran saving Mjrn, become more engaging as players can switch to these characters during battles.

4. Eikons & Espers

Final Fantasy 16's Eikon fights stood out as impressive set pieces, showcasing the game's technological advancements and Square Enix's commitment to its flagship entry. These battles effectively conveyed the destructive impact that otherworldly creatures could have on their environment.

When considering FF12's Espers, which engaged in battles against Ivalice's gods and were later sealed away, their immense power may require some segregation between gameplay and story elements. Nevertheless, a remake could explore ways to tap into their destructive capabilities, similar to the Eikons in FF16. Furthermore, assigning specific Espers to party members would add further differentiation between characters in combat.

5. License Board & Zodiac Job System

A potential method to distinguish gameplay for each character involves revamping the License Board and Zodiac Job System. The Zodiac Job System allowed characters to have up to two unique jobs out of twelve simultaneously, a departure from the original License Board system where all characters shared a giant board for unlocking equipment, spells, and skills.

Final Fantasy 16 Ifrit Skill Tree Vs Final Fantasy
License Board & Zodiac Job System

By integrating these systems with FF16's skill tree, each character can have a truly distinct gameplay experience. The eikonic wheel could be replaced with exclusive skills and equipment for each job or damage type, while the Ifrit wheel can represent various job options.

6. Side Quests & Hunts

Final Fantasy 16 utilized side quests to enrich players' understanding of Valisthea and its side characters. Numerous optional quests featured unique cinematics and interconnected storylines that developed alongside the main quest.

Although FF12 also offered side quests with evolving storylines, they felt more like mere busywork compared to the depth of FF16's side quests. By infusing CBUIII's expertise in side quest design into FF12, the hunts could become more heroic and the smaller stories could provide valuable insights into Ivalice's cultures.

7. Exploration

Players experienced restricted travel in FF16, forsaking a playable airship due to in-game, technical, and artistic reasons. The absence of an open world was compensated with substantial mini environments and the inclusion of a rideable chocobo in Ambrosia.

Final Fantasy 16 Hideaway Vs Final Fantasy 12 Airs
Exploration

On the other hand, FF12's Ivalice was constructed with zones, minimizing loading times and offering plenty of activities. Leveraging FF16's next-gen engine, the magic imbued into one-time locations like Salikawood and Bhujerba could be brought to life in FF12's grand settings. The return of the Strahl airship could serve as a mobile base for players.

8. Characters

While FF16's characters like Mid, Margrace, and the Cids received high praise, the game predominantly focused on Clive as its star. Though most characters had well-developed arcs, Clive stood out as the central figure.

In FF12's potential remake, restoring Vaan as the POV character would distribute the narrative focus evenly, exploring the growth of the entire party alongside Clive's journey. Enhanced side quests could delve into character backstories and provide on-screen depictions, allowing players to better appreciate their overarching stories.

9. Exposition & Lore

Notable characters like Harpocrates II Hyperboreios, Vivian Ninetales, and Active Time Lore significantly improved fans' understanding of the game's lore. While experienced fans may have easily grasped concepts in FF16, these characters and systems aided the developers in maintaining a coherent story.

Final Fantasy 16 Jill Clive Joshua Vs Final Fantas
Exposition & Lore

Though some argue that FF12's story is less complex than FF16's, it still warrants lore keepers and an ATL-type mechanic to help players keep track of the intricate narrative. Given the importance of world-building in FF12, such tools would heighten fan appreciation for the game.

10. Themes & Tone

Themes like "Nethecite" and "manufactured nethecite" are often associated with FF12, showcasing its dark and deep plot. The game encompasses all the classic hallmarks of a traditional Final Fantasy, including themes of war, responsibility, destruction, divine intervention, atonement, and the consequences of wielding otherworldly power.

Given CBUIII's expertise in delivering impactful stories with brutal execution, entrusting the FF12 remake to their hands should be an obvious choice. Their ability to draw out character essence and create excellent set pieces would elevate the narrative through an outsider's perspective, enriching the game's themes and tone.

Final Fantasy 7 was a game that captured a massive audience from its fascinating gaming world, amazing storyline and well-designed characters. Those are expanded to have some pin offs to the movies and games as well. In 2020, there was a remake from Final Fantasy 7. It introduced an entirely new generation for the players into the Midgar, the legendary world, Avalanche rebel group, and the dangerous threats of the Sephiroth. Since this remake introduced some of the stories that fans didn’t see as attractive, Square Enix doubled their down with an exciting plot.

So that amazing plot came to alive as Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier, and this is a battle royale game already set before the original. Here, players are fighting to the death to become the first soldier of Shinra.

Final Fantasy 3

Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier – Gameplay

The game is more into competitive action shooting along with the RPG elements. The gameplay of Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier features some of the fundamental mechanics of battle royales to loot and find the best gear. Players are not required only to deal with their enemy players as there are traditional enemies from Final Fantasy. Defeating both enemies will allow all the players to level up the characters, and as a return, it will increase their statistics for the match.

This game is putting all the players into a megacorporation customizable member for the Shinra Elite soldier unit. You will be put up in the matches along with 75 other players. All of them have to compete on being the last one alive. The game is allowing you to enter its battles. Players are allowed to defeat the in-game monsters, and through that, they can earn experience points, raising their maximum HP and power the skills. You can use the Gil to upgrade your equipment or to purchase some items. And also, these players are allowed to ride across their battlefields through a Chocobo.

Final Fantasy 4

When time passes, the battlefield of Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier is shrinking and moving the playable areas, and it forces the soldier candidates (the player characters) for confrontations. And they have to procure firearms, accessories, material and the items scattered from the map while keeping their movements to the shrinks. Here, while keeping straight with the movements, they have to compete against the enemies effectively.

Styles of the game can be chosen from various styles, and each of them will hold different strengths. Whether you want to be a warrior or take enemies to the fight with the strongest melee attacks, it is up to you. You can also be a sorcerer or choose to be a combat ninja. Choosing one from these styles has to be done before each battle begins since they determine the player’s style.

It was way back at the XO19 fan event - 2 years ago - that Microsoft initially announced the hit Square Enix game was coming to it’s games on demand subscription service Game Pass - along with a whole host of other Final Fantasy games. But only a handful of the titles appeared on the service, with that few coming and going as the months went by, such as Final Fantasy XV and the fan favourite FF VII. But finally one of the biggest Final Fantasy games in the series, Final Fantasy XIII, has come to Game Pass.

But that’s not all that’s coming to Microsoft's service this month. Tonnes of games are making their debut but If casino style games such as roulette are more your thing and you want help with your strategy, be sure to visit roulettestrategy.com/en-in.

On PC and console, you can expect to see titles such as Craftopia, Signs of the Sojourner, Surgeon Simulator 2, Crown Trick, Nuclear Throne, The Artful Escape and many more, making for a great month for games who want to dabble in some different games and have had their eye on one of these titles for a while.

But it’s not all good news. With the arrival of these games, comes the departure of some that are already on Game Pass. One of the biggest games that’s disappearing from the service is Red Dead Online, the incredibly popular online part of Red Dead Redemption 2. This is leaving the service on the 13th of September, with these other titles leaving on the 15th: Company of Heroes, Disgaea 4, Forza Motorsport 7, Hotshot Racing, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resisitance Tactics and Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales.

Red Dead Online
Along with Final Fantasy XIII is the introduction of online version of Red Dead Redemption 2 named Red Dead Online.

With all being said and done, the first announcement of September's Game Pass titles wasn’t the most impressive thing Microsoft had announced in that month, but there’s a little something in there for most gamers. Many fans were incredibly excited to get back into Final Fantasy XIII and relived the adventure the first experienced all those years ago.

If you’re brand new to Final Fantasy XIII, that’s all the more reason to give it a try! It’s been touted as one of the best in the series, with impressive and well thought out characters who are dripping with depth and charm. The visuals are absolutely top notch and the storyline keeps you glued to the screen. Add to that the updated battle system (which is far from perfect but still a step in the right direction) and you’ve got a cocktail for a great game.

Before the full Game Pass games roster for September was announced, Microsoft themselves are keeping extremely tight lipped about what else might come in the lineup.

Some games which have been touted to be released are the intriguing stealth based game Aragami 2, arrived on September 16th. At the end of September, players also saw the release of Lemnis Gate, another incredibly fascinating game which focuses on short, 25 second time loops, tight shooting mechanics like Halo and turn based elements to add a layer of strategy.

Check out one of the best Final Fantasy 7 Remake Aerith Cosplay from Cosplayer PeachMilky.]]>

Final Fantasy 7 Remake has been a massive success for both Square Enix and Sony – and part of that is probably the complete character model redesign of pretty much everyone in the game. Characters from FF7 Remakes look beautiful – and when coupled with the game’s popularity, lead to a massive wave of cosplayers. Aerith and Tifa are the two characters with the biggest number of cosplayers – both of them have relatively easy to make costumes, not too elaborate or sexy.

Aeriths Actor Has An Amazing Reaction
She is pretty dedicated, with both a specialized wig and colored contact lenses

Below is an album of Aerith Gainsborough by Peachmilky – this is probably one of the best Aerith cosplayers we have seen yet. The girl has a relatively pretty face, decent body, and adept makeup ability. Her personal Instagram page can be found here.

Aerith has a pretty important role in the story of Final Fantasy 7. She is the last survivor of an ancient race with mystical powers - the game's main villain organization, SHINRA corp., was after her because of that. They need her power to accomplish their nefarious plans, however, she was then killed by Sephiroth. It is not sure that the same thing is going to happen in Final Fantasy 7 Remake - based on what we got from the game, this looks like a completely new storyline instead of the original 1997 version.

<![CDATA[Here Are The Five Best Fishing Mini-Games In Modern Video Games]]> https://gurugamer.com/pc-console/here-are-the-five-best-fishing-mini-games-in-modern-video-games-7658 Sun, 10 Nov 2019 12:35:12 +0000 https://gurugamer.com/pc-console/here-are-the-five-best-fishing-mini-games-in-modern-video-games-7658
A look at the Fishing minigames in games - and the best fishing minigames that you can play.]]>

Video games, sometimes, not just about going through the main storyline - and then you are done. There are some games, that even provide you with many other fun things to play with, so that you can have a moment of 'peace' before (or after) diving into the heat of battles. One of those mini-games that developers like to put into their games - is the fishing mini-games.

The charm of those fishing mini-games came from the mix of relaxation and challenge. Just like in real life, you can relax while watching the rippling waters, listening to music (in this case, the game's BGM) - but when a fish bite - you will face with a challenge (in a sense, a battle with the fish) that the game developers created for the game. The challenge can range from being a complex simulation of what you will have to do when fishing in real life or being just a simple task of pressing some buttons.

And today, let's talk about the five best fishing mini-games that you can enjoy in the recent video games.

Stardew Valley (PC, Almost All Modern Consoles, Mobile)

Stardew Valley is a game that - just like its source of inspiration Harvest Moon - provides players with many things to do in the game. From farming to dungeon crawling, to trying to get romances with girls like a dating sim, Stardew Valley provides it all. And of course, there is a fishing minigame inside this game, too. If you want to, you can even ignore the farming parts of the game to become a full-time fisher.

When you go fishing and get a bit, there is a small meter that will reveal itself. If you want to catch that fish, you will have to keep the fish icon within the small section of the meter. And of course, bigger, more valuable fishes are harder to catch and will require your focus to be at the next level. Because of this reason, fishing in Stardew Valley is a serious matter, and it's the 'serious part' of the game that opposes the light-hearted fun of farming in Stardew Valley.

Yakuza 6: The Song of Life (PS4)

To fans of the Yakuza franchise, all Yakuza games can also be called a 'mini-games simulator', because this franchise bringing a lot of different mini-games into the table - alongside the more serious 'criminal melodrama' of the main storyline. Of course, the fishing minigame is a part of Yakuza's wide lineup of minigames. However, Yakuza 6 brings a great twist to the table: speargun fishing.

In this game, you will have to control the protagonist Kazuma Kiryu, using a speargun to blast at the fish in a classic arcade game fashion. And, spoiler alert, there is also a boss battle against sharks in the minigame. And this silly minigame is one of those things that contribute to a more fun side of Yakuza - a game about the bloody life of a Japanese 'criminal'.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses (Nintendo Switch)

Fishing can be considered as a great hobby for Byleth - the protagonist of Fire Emblem Three Houses - and also of those who play this game. The reason for this is because fishing is a great way to raise Byleth's professor rank without spending activity points - and when your prof. rank increase, you can do even more things in your limited free time between battles. About the minigame, it's really simple - you have to press that A button in a rhythm so that the fish's stamina gauge went to 0 - and a missed input will make your stamina gauge decrease. Perfect input will net you a more valuable fish, that in turn, raise more of your prof. rank.

Final Fantasy XV (PS4, PC)

According to many players who play Final Fantasy XV, the fishing minigame, along with cooking, is one of the better portions of Prince Noctis' adventure. The minigame consists of many different portions that simulate fishing in real life, including managing the strain of the fishing line, reeling, and pulling with quick-time events. Along with that, there is even a side quest that will let you catch a gigantic legendary fish.

Honorable Mention: Red Dead Redemption 2 (PS4, PC)

The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time

Why an old game like 'The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time' is on this list? The reason for this is with many older gamers, the fishing minigame in Ocarina of Time is also their first exposure to fishing inside a game - and many can't ever forget the experience of catching the Hylian Loach the hard way.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is on the way, slowly coming to all the eager fans. Maybe Final Fantasy 8 Remake will have a chance in the future too?]]>

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is still having a long way to go but producer Yoshinori Kitase already has Final Fantasy 8 Remake in his mind already.

"If the youth that inherits the genes of Final Fantasy can step up and do it, then I’d like to see it made."

In an interview with Famitsu, Yoshinori Kitase said that The Final Fantasy 7 Remake project was his idea since he wants to see a modern version of Final Fantasy 7 while he is still at Square Enix. It seems that Final Fantasy 7 Remake will be his last project before his retirement. As for Final Fantasy 8, he would like to have the youth of Square Enix to do it instead. To put it in another way, he wants to see Final Final 8 Remake to become true too if anyone in the company steps up and takes charge, but he won't be directly involved in it.

Last month, Square Enix introduced to players a remastered version of Final Fantasy 8 to celebrate its 20th anniversary. However, the version wasn't very welcomed by fans. Characters' models have been remastered to have wonderful quality and texture, but that was it. All the backgrounds remain the same and look really blurry on the high-resolution PC display which doesn't fit with new characters' models at all. There are a lot of bugs and FPS problems too, preventing players from fully enjoying the game.

With all the experience that Square Enix has gained from developing and marketing Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Final Fantasy 8 Remake will be a great game if Final Fantasy 8 Remake project actually happens.

Final Fantasy series is considered the most well-known RPGs series of all times, but definitely it is not the only one that has gone big.]]>

Role-playing games have been throwing us into several thrilling virtual worlds that we can get lost for eternity. In these worlds of fantasy, Final Fantasy series is considered a gold standard among all the RPGs. However, Final Fantasy isn’t the only classic RPGs in the world.

Final Fantasy series might be the genre’s pillar; nevertheless, there is still an abundance of RPGs that go leaps and bounds ahead of this game. Let’s have a look at 10 iconic RPGs that are able to challenge Final Fantasy for the crown.

10. Earthbound

The game is an appropriate entry to the list. The game serves as both a parody and a tribute of the genre. Earthbound has combined the strange and the familiar together by using enemies in B-movies as well as the setting inspired by American.

Earthbound an underrated game despite having brilliant twists

9. Secret of Mana

When you combine Zelda-esque mechanics and the SNES Final Fantasy’s visuals, this game would be the outcome. In spite of being created from a spinoff of Final Fantasy, this game is totally distinctive.

Picture2
The game is different from the Final Fantasy spinoff

At the time, RPGs that featured multiplayer, extraordinary magic system, or sort-of arcade hack-and-slash quality were rare. Even though there are some errors in the translation, the characters are funny, and the world is large, which makes the game really refreshing. You will never regret spending time on Secret of Mana despite the weird gameplay along with some flaws.

Secret of Mana is available for Windows, consoles, Android and iOS.

8. Skyrim

Picture3

Picture6
Zelda could stand toe-to-toe with the likes of Skyrim

People usually think of Zelda as an adventure-action title. However, when considering the original game’s features such as magical items, an abundance of weapons, an immense overworld, or tools you need to look for to continue the story, and fairies, it's hard to say that Zelda is not an RPG. There are also lots of similarities between the game and early JRPGs, mainly in terms of visuals. The graphics in later games in the series can be even compared with games such as Skyrim.

The legend of Zelda is available for all Nintendo consoles.

4. Pokemon series

It would be amiss if we don’t mention Pokemon in this list, the most iconic classic RPGs of all time. First released in the 90s, the Pokemon series has been developing dramatically and became a gaming staple. This series has influenced the gaming culture much more than any other games.

This Remasted Version of the game has in-game support for multiplayer over the internet.

Originally, this RPG title launched on GameCube in 2003. The unique point about it back then is that it allowed the ability to use our GBA to enjoy the experience with our friends online. Luckily, with this Remasted Version of the game, you won't need to find your old GBA since it already has a built-in cross-platform multiplayer mechanic that can support up to 4 people at the same time.

In Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, you will step in the shoes of an adventurer whose job is to guard the caravan to gather Myrrh drops. These drops are the fuel for the mystical crystals that protect all the settlements from the Miasma.

The most seducing thing in FFCC is its dreamlike atmosphere. The melody is unforgettable melody, and the characters are compelling. Each new environment is presented with poetry with a mysterious voice that evokes the dangers that one may find on his way.

At the beginning of the level, we lose all the magic previously obtained.

The game system is also full of action. It has a gameplay that allows you to hit enemies in melee by making small action sequences, and you can also obtain magic spheres - which contain different elements such as Lightning, Fire, Blizzard, etc - throughout the level by opening chests or defeating foes and later channel upon them to unleash powerful spells.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition will hit Android, iOS, PS4, and Nintendo Switch on January 23rd, 2020, so be sure to mark the date if you loved this classic game as a kid, or are just a Final Fantasy fan in general.

My advice for you is to slowly enjoy the Final Fantasy VIII Remastered because it is the best version of the game.]]>

After many years of absence from the unstoppable barrage of re-releases and ports of Square Enix, we finally got a remastered version of Final Fantasy VIII for PC and all consoles. The VIII is the best version of the game has ever been in existence.

The Remastered version looks better

And my opinion is that this Remastered version is even better than the original game. I did notice the comment trend on YouTube saying that the graphics in the debut video trailer of the game is just the same. But I can surely say that they are not. Remastered version maintains the fuzzy backgrounds of the original game. But it has better 3D models which are just like butter for my eyes.

Final Fantasy Viii Remastered The Best Way To Enjo

I think the reason behind that comment trend is that the Remastered version is not on the same graphical level with the FF VII Remake version. But the thing is that it is not Remake, it is a Remastered (clearly in the title). But we also need to take into knowledge the origin of those comments, though. Way back in 1999, when Rinoa said to Squall that he is the most handsome guy, we RPG lovers could barely notice his hideous pixelated face with our CRT TV. Back then, there was also no concept of a meme, and how would this scene becomes one.

I love it

Back then with the game - after about three hours of playtime, it hooked us up completely. I was so immersed in the game that Rinoa fill up all the space in my imagination. I knew that Squall is a handsome guy. I remembered him in the opening movie of the game. I had probably seen that opening for around 90 times.

Final Fantasy Viii Remastered The Best Way To Enjo
I remembered him in the opening movie of the game. I had probably seen that opening for around 90 times.

Final Fantasy VIII (FF VIII) Remastered maintains the barely animated and fuzzy JPEGs background. It also keeps the same aspect ratio. Moreover, it keeps the full-motion quality video from the original. Plus, it offers us new lovingly, wonderfully 3D models. Geometry speaking, these are identical with the one in the original game. But with a much superior texture detail which is just like butter to our eye.

My experience

When I first tried the Remastered version, I didn't even recognize the game. Ten years after the original release, I enjoyed it again to the fullest. This game takes on lots of bizarre risks with its plots, structures, and game designs.

The creators of the franchise usually talk about the desperation anecdote which they based the franchise on. According to the legend, Squaresoft had only enough money to make one more title. Their entire fate was up to that game.

Final Fantasy Viii Remastered The Best Way To Enjo
According to the legend, Squaresoft had only enough money to make one more title.

FF VIII launched 2 years after FF VII stirred up the worldwide market. Back then, Squaresoft was working on the next 3 FF games. It was also producing and financing a feature film based on the game series. This ambition level is sometimes I haven't seen again with the modern-day game studios.

Final Fantasy XI, X, and IX plus the feature film were all flops. Thus, FF VIII was destined to be the game coming out after FF VII.

Now looking back at that history 20 years after, I admire the creative risks of the game deeply. It has reinvented the game once more right before the aw and ah of everyone.

Fully enjoying it

I have to admit it, back then I was young and I just kinda rush through the original game. It was difficult for me to feel Squall the protagonist. He is one of the first characters we meet in the game, a strong-man-wannabe young protagonist. With him is an older teacher who sees clearly through his shell and mocks him right on. That just somehow felt embarrassing, like when you read your old writing.

Replaying the title, so far for it has been wonderful. I have been able to fully enjoy the game that I used to be frowned at back in 1999. The combat in the game features an amazingly brave default level of simplistic and game-designerly urgency that was waiting for me to enjoy it again.

Triple Triad, the mini card game is also amazing. Especially the theme music still stunning as always.

Final Fantasy VIII

For those who have never played this game. Final Fantasy VIII tells the story of Squall Leonhart and the other members of SeeD as they fight through Galbadia's empire rule to prevent Queen Edea from fulfilling her final goal. The game may start slowly, but if you take the time for the story, you will really enjoy how Squall and Rinoa's love story ends.

Final Fantasy Viii Remastered The Best Way To Enjo
Many people say that FF VII has the best story, but for hardcore fans, Final Fantasy VIII is much better than that.

There are many surprises and shocking revelations. Many people say that FF VII has the best story, but for hardcore fans, Final Fantasy VIII is much better than that. It does not have the humorous melody of Final Fantasy IX, and the sinister storyline of Final Fantasy VII. But Final Fantasy VIII is in the combination of love, politics and of course magic.

Remastered version

The combat system in the Remastered version has not changed. It is the same Active Time Battle system comes with FFVII and FFIX. Each character in the battle will have a time measure, and it will fill up, then you will have turns to attack. It sounds tedious to those who have never played any game in the genre before. But an absolute blessing for the fans.

The FF VII Remastered will come to PS4, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Xbox One on the 3rd of September. Six days short of the original title's 20th-anniversary release. It comes will the appropriate price tag as well: The number of cents the same its anniversary (19.99 dollars).

The Final Fantasy 8 Remastered title has been officially released today, but the censorship of this game is quite not okay.]]>

With the boom of World of Warcraft Classic, we can say that the gaming community loves classic video games. That is why a lot of gamers around the world put high expectation on the next title from Square Enix Final Fantasy 8 Remastered. This game has just been officially released today, and it is expected to be the title to play while waiting for Final Fantasy 7 remake.

Although just got released a few couples of hours ago, some diehard fans of the Final Fantasy game series has already noticed some strange things about the graphics of the remastered title, especially about the way this game censors its sensitive features. There are a lot of sensitive features in the origin Final Fantasy 8 (mostly the character designs), so it is easy to understand that Square Enix will add some censorship to the remastered title. But the way this game censors is quite “bias.”

First of all, let’s take a look at the design of Siren character. In the original title, she had a super sexy design, but when it comes to the remastered title, her “feather” dress has cover all around her waist, covering all her groin part.

Not only Siren, the design for Rinoa has also been changed. The cleavage of this character has been added new censorship.

8galmte
There is surely censorship for the remastered Rinoa

But in the remastered title, design for character Shiva has not been changed at all, and we all know how sexy she is.

No cencorship for the remastered Shiva at all

It looks like Square Enix might have some “bias” with the way it censors the characters in Final Fantasy 8 Remastered.

Final Fantasy is a massive JRPG series that has been going on for thirty years - this list will rank all their main games, from the greatest to the most lacking.]]>

Whenever the Role Playing Game genre is mentioned in videogames, the first thing that comes to the top of your head might be Final Fantasy. It might be hard for newcomers to understand the whole thing without research, but the franchise has definitely made up for that with the amazing stories, well-written characters, and challenging gameplay.

Final Fantasy is one of the greatest JRPG series ever

Excluding spin-offs, crossovers and direct sequels, there are fifteen games total in the franchise to date. This article would go over all of them, from the forgotten ones to the highest-rated fan-favorites.

Furthermore, all these games will be ranked based on their original runs, which means no HD, remastered ports – all the improvements that were made later will not be a factor on this list. Also, the two MMOs will also be counted into the list, as they are considered number games.

15 - Final Fantasy II

Mv5bowvjy2eymmetyjexzc00ognllwfizgytmzkymzkzyjiwod
Final Fantasy 2 main character, Firion

As Final Fantasy II is the game that introduced fan-favorite Cid Highwind to the cast and rolled out the first chocobos, you would have thought FF2 would be higher on the list. Despite being the first game in the series to introduce many aspects that Final Fantasy would be known for later, there is a reason that Final Fantasy II never get an international release at the time. The proficiency system in FF2 can seriously hamper your gameplay experience since you are getting punished for trying new things rather than sticking to set patterns. It has a better storyline than the first game, but that’s is not enough.

14 - Final Fantasy I

The one that started it all, Final Fantasy saved Square from bankruptcy and is pretty much a revolutionary game by 1987 standard. Featuring a large overworld, with strategic turn-based combat and a grand story following four Light Warriors, Final Fantasy I give players of the time a taste of freedom and creativity that’s not often seen.

Wp2858774
The one that started it all

However, the game does not hold up well by even the 90s’ standards, as it just does not have enough customization and variety to keep players occupied. You can experience Final Fantasy I for yourself, using an emulator – or buying the Android/iOS version.

13 - Final Fantasy XV

Taking a lot of risks, the most recent entry of the Final Fantasy Series ditched the traditional random encounters for a real-time battle system. Coupled with the open-world design, the experience created was far from the usual Final Fantasy the players would expect. Furthermore, due to the open-world structure, we can clearly see the western influence on this installment of our favorite JRPG franchise.

Image
FF XV's Noctis and Luna

Final Fantasy XV is, on the surface level, far more action-oriented and flashy, however, it lacks the intricate depth and crafted nuance that a turn-based system would be able to convey. They should have reused the Final Fantasy XII’s combat system if they want an action-based FF. The character designs are also just as bad, with the main party being a group of annoying teenagers, with mannerism so weird they could come from an emo band. The beautifully open world helps somewhat, but it cannot save the game when the story falls flat on its face.

FF XV overall is not a bad game, it's just a bad Final Fantasy game.

12 - Final Fantasy XIII

Final Fantasy XIII was one of the best looking game during the time it was released. However, every other aspect of it has been slammed down by either critics or die-hard fans of the franchise. Final Fantasy XIII brought back the Active time battle system, but way too simplified – which leads to a series of random battles that could literally be completed by pressing the same button over and over. You can mitigate the grind somewhat by setting the game to Auto-Battle for the game to play itself, however.

Ffiiil
Lightning returns

The worst issue in XIII is how linear it was compared to other games in the series. The story and settings were nice, and they get even better in the other two parts of XIII. It’s overall a fun game, but Square could have done better instead of just staying in the safe zone.

11 - Final Fantasy III

The first game in the series to include the Jobs and summon systems. The original never saw any international release but the remake is available now on iOS, Android and PC. Closer to FF I than FF II, Final Fantasy is one of the best game in the NES-era, with all the improved dungeons, jobs and battle switch-outs. The story, unsurprisingly, plays out similar to the first Final Fantasy game.

Thumb 1920 269731

10 - Final Fantasy XI

The first out of two Final Fantasy MMOs, XI started out as a run-off-the-mill MMO experience. Nobody could have expected the game to grow out that much during the next decade. Final Fantasy XI was originally released on the PS2 and PC, but it even manages to invade the Xbox 360 afterward, become the first MMO on the system. As usual MMO shenanigans go, XI is the same, with partying, raiding dungeons and acquire better loot. There have been five expansions plus numerous bonus addons and seasonal events – the last of them came in 2015. You can still play it on PC today – on Steam even.

Final Fantasy Xi Hd Wallpapers 33120 3920925
Final Fantasy 11 - a decent MMO for its time

9 - Final Fantasy V

Final Fantasy V took everything good from FF 3 and expand them. The last strictly medieval-themed Final Fantasy, V has aged pretty well – it's just as playable today compare to how it was in 1992. The Job system getting a huge overhaul, with the inclusion of methods to switch abilities and powers within the same job. The changes, in turn, create endless possibilities for creativity from the players’ part.

599078
Lenna and Faris from FF V

However, Final Fantasy V would be ranked much higher on the list if it has a better story, as the game has some of the most uninteresting and unmemorable cast of characters ever in a Final Fantasy game.

However, the quality of the story is subjective, and if you can bear with it, Final Fantasy V would definitely be one of your favorite. The remastered version is available on PC, iOS, and Android.

8 - Final Fantasy XIV

Ff14 A Realm Reborn Wallpaper 19
The update that saves FF XIV

This game at its release state would be on the bottom of this list, however, a later expansion named A Realm Reborn fixed that. The 2010 MMO was so bad Square shut it down and relaunch the whole thing after three years run with A Realm Reborn. The 2014 version of the game, however, would be some of the best MMO experience that you could find on the Market. The planet of Hydaelyn is amongst the best Final Fantasy settings ever made, with a deeply crafted story and lore comparable to any other MMO on the market. Coupled with a big array of quests, party raids, and engaging PVP actions, A Realm Reborn is something that can easily steal hundreds of hours from your life.

Since launch, there have been three great expansions, including the latest, Shadowbringers. Even if MMO is not your thing, FF XIV’s qualities might even be able to change that. The game is pretty much the best multiplayer experience for fans of the series.

7 - Final Fantasy IV

The Final Fantasy game that turned the series into the giant juggernaut of the JRPG genre known today, FF4 is the first game with the active time battle mechanic. The class system received a new upgrade based on the character-driven narratives, with each class telling a specific part of the story. Cecil and co. were the primary protagonist of the story, however, the other people in the cast also played a great part.

FF IV's main characters, Cecil and Kain

Released in America as “Final Fantasy 2”, FF IV is a huge improvement over the previous entries of the series – you can play it today on either DS, PC or mobile.

6 - Final Fantasy VII

Probably the most iconic installment in the series, Final Fantasy VII’s brightest point is its story. The game features some of the most brilliantly written story and characters in the franchise, both good and evil. Coupled with some of the most groundbreaking cutscenes and emotional sound design, Final Fantasy VII is probably the one game that comes to people’s mind whenever the franchise is mentioned.

Ffvii Banner En H 2019
Final Fantasy 7 - with Cloud overlooking the city

However, people often see this game through the nostalgia tinted glasses, as the endless hype surrounding the game has concealed quite a lot of the game’s weaknesses. Moving out of 2D for the first time, a lot of details in the game are rough and unpolished. The battle system was quite slow, with not much from FF VI retained.

Final Fantasy Vii Advent Children Sephiroth Vs Clo
Cloud vs Sephiroth

Overall, despite being a great game, Final Fantasy VII has not aged well. However, there are still hope, as the PS4 remake is almost here to save the day. The original can still be played on every console under the sun if you are into the old graphics.

5 - Final Fantasy IX

There have been a lot of debates among fans about the superior FF game from the PS1 era. While VII might be the most iconic game in the series, Final Fantasy IX took everything enjoyable from 7 and improved them. The medieval fantasy elements from VI and the science fiction elements from VII have been combined together by one of the best writing the franchise has ever witnessed, creating one of the longest and most emotional adventures in the series.

Wp1941064

Launched near the end of the PS 1 lifecycle, Final Fantasy IX has used everything the console has to offer. As of now, you can still enjoy the game just like how it was twenty years ago. The game is available on multiple platforms, including PC, Switch and Androids.

4 - Final Fantasy XII

The second entry to be released in the PS2, Final Fantasy XII is widely regarded to be a modern masterpiece. Being the first mainline Final Fantasy to drop the random battle system and replace it with real-time combat, the initial opinion about XII was divisive amongst fans.

Set in the world of Ivalice, Final Fantasy XII contains an array of well-designed characters and beautifully detailed environments. The overhaul combat system, known as the Active Dimension Battle, has a lot of depth and is very satisfying. The reason behind that is the highly modified limit break system, called Quickening, and the gambit mechanic. And that’s still not everything the game, with the Sphere Grid from FF X also getting added, under the name License Board – further, increase the customization of the combat system.

FF XII's update, the Zodiac Age

With a recent update named the Zodiac Age, further improving the game, it is hard to compare XII to any other Final Fantasy games since it is just… different. Once you get through the first few slow hours and get used to the game, XII is probably one of the most exciting and rewarding JRPG experience around.

Final Fantasy XII has an HD remaster on PS4, XBOX One and Switch.

3 - Final Fantasy VIII

Final Fantasy VIII is pretty much the strangest entry in the series. It reinvents the active time battle wheel while still taking into consideration a lot of good factors in previous games. The armors and accessories were replaced with the new junction system – opening up brand new options for customization. Each character has their own combat style, decided by their set weapons.

The biggest change in FF VIII, however, is the new focus on summoning. Combined with the built-in collectible card game and a completely new level scaling mechanic, everything in VIII were bold and fresh – a step in the right direction. All the new changes mesh together pretty well, giving the players freedom of choosing their adventure how they see fit.

The game was set in a planet consists of five landmasses based on Europe – with a level of details unprecedented. And with the advent of 3D models, VIII has improved a lot from VII’s base designs, giving the players the chance to see Squall and co. in greater detail.

Lastly, Square Enix has finally decided to give Final Fantasy VIII some love, as the HD remaster is going to hit PC, PS4, XBOX One and Switch next month.

2 - Final Fantasy X

Released on the height of PS2 gaming, Final Fantasy X is probably one of the most beloved entry in the franchise. As time passes, people have slowly realized the brilliance behind this game – as what made it corny is actually quite enjoyable. Coupled with one of the best turn-based systems in the series, Final Fantasy X’s high placement on this list is very justified.

A fairly linear gaming experience, Final Fantasy X comes with large and detailed environments dotted with dungeons involving great puzzles. However, at the time, the graphics are the best selling point of the game, and at 2001, the processing power of the PlayStation 2 has allowed the game’s graphics to move to the next generation, making the Asia based land Spira and the models of characters look better than ever.

The gorgeous world design

The relationship in Final Fantasy X was very well written – watching the bond between Tidus and Yuna grow alongside their adventures is something sorely missed in later FF games. On a more tangible level -for the first time in the series, all the cut scenes have full voice acting. Combined that with the corny dialogue, Square has been really successful in making every moment of their romance highly emotional and fluid.

Furthermore, Final Fantasy X’s gameplay has to get back to the root of the series, with turn-based combat replacing the active time battle system. Combined with the depth added by the sphere grid, a character’s class can be highly customizable. Blitzball, the underwater sport minigame, is also something that needs to be mentioned – as a lot of fans has demanded Square to make a standalone Blitzball game.

The HD collection for Final Fantasy 10 is available on all system – the direct sequel of FF 10 isn’t as good, however.

1 - Final Fantasy VI

Consider by many the best in the whole franchise, 1994’s Final Fantasy VI is a massive hit in every sense of the word. Released in the United States as Final Fantasy 3, the last 16 bit FF entry features a huge cast of more than 12 characters. Combined that with the steampunk world design, FF VI has set the trend for many a game released in the late nineties. In this setting, magic has become the stuff of legend, while the world has become filled with advanced technology from the Second Industrial Revolution.

The story of FF 6 was highly regarded for a reason – it is paced perfectly. The first half was solely made for introducing the players to the main cast of characters, from the protagonist Terra Branford to the rogue treasure hunter Locke Cole. That allows those characters to grow and make connections to each other – an incredible feat since there are more than a dozen character on your side. The second part of the game opens up the story, letting the player complete the story in a non-linear order – that degree of freedom in playing is pretty much unheard of at the time. The gameplay aspects of FF6 is also not to be trifled with – as there are just so many new things to tinker and experiment with - unique magic spell and customized summoning system are the two things that we can get immediately from the top of our head.

Most fans of the series would not be surprised to see Final Fantasy VI being number 1. To the majority of players, FF6 is not only their favorite entry of the series but also their favorite game ever.

Every aspect of Final Fantasy VI, from the compelling story to the highly customizable combat system and the excellent world designs have combined to create a nearly perfect Final Fantasy experience. 25 years later, Square Enix still hasn’t able to beat this game. This is probably Square at their very best.

You can get the game now on PC, Android, and iOS.

Tom Holland And Hannibal Buress were invited by Square Enix to feature in an ad for Final Fantasy 14 title.]]>

Square Enix has released an interesting advertisement for Final Fantasy 14

Square Enix has just brought out a new advertisement for Final Fantasy 14’s upcoming. It’s an expansion of Shadowbringers of this official shop. Wha t surprised us is the appearance of Spider Man attempting to master the Warrior of Darkness with the help from comedian Hannibal Buress.

During the first half of the ad, we can see Holland try to be ready for the game. He is training to swing an enormous Dark Knight weapon and bust baddies, whereas Buress laconically reminds him how wasteful it is. Basically it’s a game, an Avenger’s Spidey is a gamer as well, therefore he only needs to press some buttons. Next, the game starts for both, but sadly our Spidey dude dies immediately in-game.

Screen Shot
The Duo star in Spider-man: Homecoming made a great ad for Final Fantasy XIV

The hilarious pairing made a nice chemistry together due to partner relationship in Spider-Man: Homecoming. While Holland shows his strength by bench-pressing his co-star, Buress jabs back by reminding that Tom isn’t a hard-ass for a warrior, “he’s a dude from “nice a part of London.” “It’s not about trying to be the Ultimate Final Fantasy Master, it’s what in here that matters and what’s in there is a gamer.” How nice is a quote from the ads.

But the Final Fantasy may be beyond our expectation.

Square Enix is keeping the web version of Final Fantasy totally fresh, together with the notice of updated classes, new worlds, and a just-revealed road map for what the Warrior of Darkness will expect once Shadowbringers is get into the wild.

Not that we’re looking forward for it, mind you back: Final Fantasy 14. Square Enix has already shown off the expansion for Shadowbringers on 28th June for those pre-ordered, and 2nd July for everybody. Final Fantasy 14 is out there for Windows computer, Mac, and PlayStation 4.

<![CDATA[10 Important Details You Missed In The Teaser Trailer Of Final Fantasy 7 Remake]]> https://gurugamer.com/pc-console/10-details-you-missed-in-the-teaser-trailer-of-final-fantasy-7-remake-3176 Tue, 14 May 2019 07:38:00 +0000 https://gurugamer.com/pc-console/10-details-you-missed-in-the-teaser-trailer-of-final-fantasy-7-remake-3176
We have a new trailer for the new Final Fantasy 7 Remake... here are some important details that you might have missed in the trailer.]]>

We have just received the teaser trailer for Final Fantasy 7 Remake a while ago during the State of Play of PlayStation. Even though this trailer is quite short, there are many details of the game we could spot in that 1-minute long video. Here is our list of ten details that you have missed in that trailer.

#10 Classic CLOUD

10 Important Details You Missed In The Teaser Trai
Cloud has some updates to be suitable for the modern time

Of course, Cloud is back with this remake and his look in this Remake is just like back in Final Fantasy 7. Still, he has some updates to be suitable for the modern time. He still has his classic appearance of spiky hair, that bolted shoulder pad, the baggy pants, and the Buster Sword. He still features that Limit Breaker move from the original game as we saw his Cross Slash in the trailer. However, from the trailer, we didn't get to see any interactions of him in the overworld such as answering or talking to others with the well-known Final Fantasy 7 text box.

Yet we got to see that when not in a fight, he usually run and climb around the levels to solve various puzzles. There is no footage of him in Midgar within the trailer but I think it is safe to assume there would be many interactions with him outside of combat.

#9 Materia?

10 Important Details You Missed In The Teaser Trai
Cloud has two slots in the Buster Sword for two Materia

In the original game and in the Remake, Cloud both has two slots in the Buster Sword for two Materia.

While Cloud will keep all of his original moves he might also have the same Materia system in this Remake as his sword still has two Materia slots. In the trailer, there are moments where we could only see one slot for Materia on the Buster Sword. But since, the sword also has another slot just above the hilt so one slot doesn't seem to be the case. We have two characters that use slashes are Aerith and Cloud. When being used they will emit some kind of blue sparks, maybe that when the Materia comes into effect.

As the Materia used to boost up the abilities and spells it is quite an important item in the game. The only question about it remains is how deep the developer is going to make the system of Materia. How will they integrate the Materia with all those future members of the party? Will they streamline the system to encourage the players to match and mix their abilities? We don't know yet but usually, Square Enix is quite generous on how they get the players to use the mechanics.

#8 A New Combat System?

10 Important Details You Missed In The Teaser Trai
The Remake will have an Open Combat System

From the look of it, seems like the Remake will take note from FFXV as the party and Cloud will feature a kind of Open Combat system. With this system, you could jump in to take control of your party members in the middle of a battle. If they feature this system, it means that in a difficult situation you can just jump in to take control of Baret and with his barrage of bullets you could turn the whole thing around. Of course, you might as well use Cloud to deliver some extra damage as well.

#7. The English Voice Acting of Aerith

Ff7 Remake Aerith
Aerith Gainsborough gives Cloud a flower

Aerith is back in this Final Fantasy 7 Remake, the beloved flower girl of everyone. And she looks amazing. In the trailer, she greets Cloud in the bombing run while attempting to give a flower to Cloud. However, from the cut screen, we haven't got to see if there are an option for rejecting taking the flower from her yet. As she offering the flower to Cloud, you could notice the English lipsyncing on the scene.

#6 The Returning Enemies:

10 Important Details You Missed In The Teaser Trai
Sahagins are the turtle monsters that Cloud and Aerith encounter in the 30th seconds of the trailer

Those bosses Aps and Guard Scorpion will both make appearances in this Remake. And seems like they will retain their looks from the original game with some updates for 2019. Back in the day, most of the enemies in FF 7 all looked kinda strange and goofy, but that is one of the charms of FF7. The developer also brings Sahagins back, it is the turtle monsters with spears that Cloud and Aerith encounter in the 30th seconds of the trailer. That means those creatures like Chocobos and Cactuars will also appear in a similar appearance as their original counterparts. By the way, Guard Scorpion will return and attack with its tail up.

#5 Wedge, Biggs and Jessie

10 Important Details You Missed In The Teaser Trai
Jessie helped us many times throughout the adventure of Cloud

In this case, you will definitively appreciate the usage of original art in this modern Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

Back in FF7, Wedge and Biggs are a goofballs pair that played a supporting role. Together with them is Jessie, who helped us many times throughout the adventure of Cloud. There was also an option to flirt with Jessie. Other from that, seems like in the Remake they will still have supporting roles because they don't look like they will become members of Cloud's party. This is quite unfortunate because they have received updates that make them look quite capable of fighting.

#4 TIFA?

10 Important Details You Missed In The Teaser Trai
It is clear that Tifa will fight alongside Barret and Cloud, but still, in the trailer, she is always out of our view

In the video, you can see her name everywhere, there are some instances she joins Barret and Cloud. Other times she joins the fight with Aerith and Cloud against the sewers. One small tiny problem is that you would never see her on-camera. The developers have hidden Tifa from our view, maybe they haven't finished her yet or she still has important design change. Whatever the case, it is sure that she will be in the final game alongside with the other members.

#3 Cloud will meet Sephiroth early?

10 Important Details You Missed In The Teaser Trai
We have seen Cloud talked to Sephiroth in a destroyed factory

When Cloud meets with this mysterious Sephiroth, in fact?

This mysterious man has appeared very prominently in this trailer of the Remake. We have seen Cloud talked to him in a destroyed factory. In the original game, Cloud doesn't meet him up until halfway through the main story. Maybe this is a change in the Remake, or what is in the trailer is only a flashback of Cloud. Still, it makes much more sense if Square Enix wants to fresh thing up because the story of FF7 is kinda convoluted in the ending part.

#2 Maybe this trailer is just Episode 1?

321498
Maybe this is just the trailer for episode 1

This Remake of Final Fantasy 7 is set to be released in many episodes and seems like this trailer only cover the episode 1. Some scenes in the trailer only take place in the beginning part of the game where Cloud blows up the first reactor to kill the boss. Then there is also the gameplay of the sewer fights with Tifa and Aerith. Because this video is just a 1-minutes trailer so it is hard to squeeze everything in it. But in case it is just the first episode then there is plenty left to see of the game upon its release.

#1. On PS4, Or PS5?

Dims
The game will be released for PS4 first

Square Enix says that they will release Final Fantasy 7 Remake on PS4, not PS5. We have the confirmation from Sony that they will not release the PS5 version in the next 12 months. So the release day of the Remake will be within that time frame if not even sooner. However, surely there will be also a version of the game for the upcoming PS5 as they won't leave FF7 hanging while new generation rolls out.

<![CDATA[Dissidia Final Fantasy NT: Free-to-Play, Disastrous Nonetheless]]> https://gurugamer.com/pc-console/dissidia-final-fantasy-nt-free-to-play-disastrous-nonetheless-2134 Sat, 23 Mar 2019 12:44:05 +0000 https://gurugamer.com/pc-console/dissidia-final-fantasy-nt-free-to-play-disastrous-nonetheless-2134
Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is a title with so much potentials. The deep flaws in the game's mechanics, design, and the lack of thoughts put into the game has made it into a nightmare.]]>

Final Fantasy is a loveable series that has stuck with me since I was a kid. And even though I wanted to sing all of the best praises about the series later addition, unfortunately, it is so flawed that even the better things about Dissidia Final Fantasy couldn’t save it.

Dissidia Final Fantasy Guide
Dissidia Final Fantasy: Great Concept, Horrible Execution.

Too Flawed To Be Playable

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT has been reviewed by many popular sources, and I think this phrase recapped the entire game best: “chaotic, thrilling and deeply flawed”. Despite the fact that it has all of the potentials necessary to be one of the greatest crossovers in gaming and being a hit game for being free-to-play, it is still a bizarre title. NT technically took the traditional formula of past Dissidia games on the PSP: Solo slash multiplayer focused - and complicated it greatly. They have added so many unnecessary details it’s hard for most to find the game fun anymore, instead, playing the game and liking it had come down to taste. And that is very bad news.

Dissidia Final Fantasy Nt Screen 06 Ps4 Us 09june2
The headache-inducing UI that is Dissidia's.

If you’ve found yourself able to navigate the hellishly complex UI and mechanisms of the game, most likely through the mind-numbing walkthroughs and tutorials online. Then you may find NT to be a pretty good tactical game.

The tactical element of the game shone through its multitude of tactical options the players can take and the way combat encounters are designed allow for players to retreat and regroup more effectively. The combat is slower-paced, and you can navigate actions far more simpler than the UI of the game.

Bad Execution

Dissidia is a good idea and intention, but with below par execution. It’s a unique fighting game experience that combines the traditional fast-paced third person game with a fighting game. All of which are done under the guise of one of gaming’s most celebrated series makes the game even more worthwhile despite its drawbacks.

Like I said, the game’s execution is its downfall. Previous games made by Dissidia offered RPG story modes, meanwhile, NT has nothing. NT is a far more complex game than all of its predecessors, but it’s done a bad job at explaining its premise. At the very least, without the presence of a single-player mode the game could be saved by a solidly-built multiplayer mode.

Original
The game could've been saved by having a great multiplayer experience. Except it doesn't.

But Dissidia failed in that, too.

Free-to-Play, But Unattractive Nonetheless

Branding Dissidia Final Fantasy NT as a free-to-play game is a great idea. NT is a complex game that’s challenging to learn and play. If players were forced to shell out their hard-earned money to get into the game in the first place, chances are, they would be extremely frustrated at the apparent bad investment.

But by giving free access, players can be considerably more forgiving and would be willing to spend more time in learning the mechanisms. A portion of these forgiving players can even become hooked by the better things about the game. That is something NT desperately needs considering how it has struggled to find a player-base since its release owing to its faults. The free access also placates players who are sceptical of the game, giving them a taste of it first before giving them the option of whether to buy characters, costumes, or so on.

3max
The game's free-to-play on both PS4 and PC. That doesn't mean it's worth playing, however.

Releasing the game as a free title also paves the way for an interesting come-back. As demonstrated by Street Fighter 5 Arcade Edition, a troubled fighting game can at least try to fix itself over time, re-brand, then re-launch itself into a completely playable and loveable version everyone wanted in the first place. Unfortunately, that’s not something Square Enix - at least for now - is interesting in doing. Beside from some DLCs, there are no signs that the company would do this any time soon.

Broken Multiplayer

You can download the game on Steam and PlayStation Network free of charge, though like I said, it’s not easy to get into. If you’re short on patience, you can find yourself deleting and forgetting about the game extremely fast. The game could probably be saved had it offered up a good online experience. Instead, what it has is a disastrous multiplayer mode.

Due to the game’s complexity, no one plays it. Quite literally. I have heard of reports people trying to match-make and at the end of a gruelling, four-minute wait they got assigned a game with two AIs. Even when they’re able to find a match full of players, the game’s still too laggy for the experience to be pleasurable.

Though this is Final Fantasy, Dissidia is not an RPG like its name-sake. It is a complete fighting game, and the best way to turn players away from the game is to introduce problematic match-making, and laggy gameplay.

Invitation to Cheat

That’s the console version. But if you hope that the PC version might be a little bit better to stomach, you’re wrong. It’s still a mess, and for some, it’s even worse than the console version. Whether the game even runs itself depends on your luck entirely. Some people can hit 60 FPS on the first go with older cars, while those with newer cards - due to the game’s horrific optimisation - can’t even play at all. It didn’t feel like the developers even cared about the game they were making by the stupid design choices that filled the game. Like how saves and character statuses are stored locally even during online plays.

Maxresdefault 4
You shouldn't even be surprised when you fight against an undefeatable player in Dissidia.

And for some tinkers, that’s an invitation to cheat. Players are fully capable editing their save files to unlock all of the high-end gears. But wait, there’s more: Even the character’s online ranking is stored locally, so with an editor, you can boost yourself up to the top of the chart and no-one would be the wiser.

It doesn’t just apply to the out-of-match experience, trainers can easily give you unlimited HP as well as a myriad of other advantages. I hope that you have enough self-worth not to do this to other players and ruin the game even further. However, there are some out there gladly taking advantage of this and makes the game even less playable than it already is.

A Nightmare Without End

Dissidia is a nightmare without ends, and you have to wonder whether Square Enix even cares about the game at all.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is still a popular title in many arcades, still, it’s not even worth mentioning at this point that you shouldn’t even spend your time attempting the game. It’s simply not worth the efforts and the time you would put into the game knowing that sooner or later, you would shake your head and move on. Be it from the broken match-making, the lag, or the endless hacks. Square Enix has a lot of things to fix about the game, and until then, find somewhere else to spend your time.

<![CDATA[Thinking About Final Fantasy 8, Twenty Years Later]]> https://gurugamer.com/pc-console/thinking-about-final-fantasy-8-twenty-years-later-1492 Fri, 15 Feb 2019 04:25:18 +0000 https://gurugamer.com/pc-console/thinking-about-final-fantasy-8-twenty-years-later-1492
Final Fantasy 8’s dramatic escalations make it a game shining among its medieval peers. This article will point out how it stands the test of time.]]>

When I played the game Final Fantasy 8, I was passionate about being a cool teenage – immersed in the fear of existentialism while putting on cool clothes and making friends with moody-looking guys.

“I’d like to get Rinoa’s haircut,” I remember thinking, “and train a dog to launch off my arm like a crossbow bolt.” At that time, I was eleven years old and easily influenced.

1999 PlayStation game of Squaresoft merchandises series staples such as princesses and castles for mercenaries and military academies, creating a bizarre balance between sci-fi technology and magic spells. While retaining plenty of recognizable features of the Final Fantasy franchise, it diverges sufficiently from its forerunners to gain its position as the “black sheep” of the Final Fantasy family. The game contradicts in many ways, the amalgamation of memorable characters, technical achievements and extraordinary plot twists made a strong hunch on me. Twenty years later, I am still under the impression of them.

1

“In spite of the extensive romance promoted in its authorized logo, the title is eventually a coming-of-age plot.”

In spite of the extensive romance promoted in its authorized logo, the title is eventually a coming-of-age plot. It is about an unorganized group of undergraduate mercenaries in the efforts against a wicked witch who preoccupied with time compression and rescue the world.

FF8’s genre mashup is the precursor of memorable sequences such as “There’s a monster who bankrolled our school and he lives in the basement,” and, “Your girlfriend is possessed by a sorceress from the future in a space station, what do you do?”.

The original version of PlayStation extends four discs while each one conveys a set of mistrustful obstacles as well as plot devices. Invading a presidential car sound cool, yet what if all party’s guests passed out in a robbery then had a shared dream? Likewise, what if the dream was not a dream, yet it was actually something else?

I accepted the whole of this without hesitation or question as the way I did with other games I played when I was a child. Now, I look back on the moments and find both fond and inconceivable. What a weird mix of feelings! When the leading character Squall Leonhart as well as his party surrender to puzzling spells, they experienced shared dreams which take place about one decade prior to the Sorceress War. The protagonist takes on the role of the character Laguna Lire, a foolish but kind soldier as well as ex-journalist. Laguna is adorable. There is a long scene which is dedicated to summoning up the bravery to chat with an attractive lounge singer, that is unfortunately cut short by an unpleasant leg cramp. The character ultimately has to back to his seat.

He is the entire opposite of the protagonist in many ways. While Squall is quite aloof and frequently dubious of others’ intentions. Laguna is such a sentimental character. Throughout the dream series, players are allowed to see the commentary of Squall on the events that Laguna experience in the timeline. It is quite clear that Squall thinks Laguna is an entire idiot. And what’s hilarious is that this idiot is his father even though both of them do not know it.

I am still amazed that one of the game’s important revelations is not still made explicit. Clues exit, for instance, Squall’s time when he lives in his orphanage or the friendship with Ellone, a girl he met in childhood. However, the players never get full satisfaction, the juicy moment that everyone is looking forward when Laguna and Squall come face-to-face with the realization. In the end, they cross paths each other without being aware of their family relationships. Squall even wonders how Laguna became the Esthar’s president. It is hilarious, sure, but sad. At the end of the plot, Laguna visits the grave of his wife as well as recalls the night that he asked her to marry him. There is a written line on her tombstone “Raine Loire”, changed from the unmarried name, Loeonhart; however, to which is never referred in-game.

Squall himself appears as a huge deviation from foregoing Final Fantasy protagonists. At first, he is a seventeen-year-old guy who is alone at a military school, called “Garden”. He often responds to everything with “…Whatever”. He is quite alike to Cloud Strife in Final Fantasy 7 to some extent, a sullen and terse boy who does not like to depend on others. However, different from un FF7, we are able to access to every insecurity and inner thought of Squall. Even when Squall was praised by his superiors as well as comrades, he still doubts his validity as well as declines every praise he gets. His crucial childhood glimpses and flashbacks into scenes of bullying, loneliness, and abandonment made me felt strongly resonated. Not only were these things related to me, but it is rare that a game character deals with these issues. It could be undemanding to describe Squall as a teen who often fell dejected. However, looking back at that time, I felt sympathy for him. Squall is an enormous departure from the character Cloud, that never articulated emotional struggles when he encounters the most terrible situations.

2

“FF8’s earnest heart and dramatic escalation make it the game which shines among its medieval counterparts”

This storytelling kind points out how different the game was from the predecessors. FF8 launched after Parasite Eve, a video game which is based on a sci-fi novel. It is a great time of experimentation for Squaresoft. Apart from the shift of the storyline, the manufacturer took huge mechanical as well as visual risks with the game. It is notable that for the first time, CG cutscenes was introduced to the game. The characters are developed to full-scale from mini-pixelated fairies and blocky figures of the SNES eras. A new fight system likewise emerged. As a result, those risks have been paid off: the game still is the 2nd best-selling in the franchise. It has reached 8.8 million copies sold globally.

In spite of the huge sale number, it is likely that a remaster would not emerge soon. For years, it is rare to meet someone who defends this title like me, I occasionally felt embarrassed to mention that FF8 is my best-loved Final Fantasy. However, these days, close to the game’s 20th anniversary, I am glad to see how many fans share my feelings with this game. We share favorite screenshots and memories. We may not personally know each other; however, we share an immediate kinship. We have lived it as well as survived entire the game’s four discs.

Enduring fanbase shows that FF8’s high dramas, contradictions along with outrageously charming world-building are able to stand the harsh challenge of time. FF8’s earnest heart and dramatic escalation make it the game which shines among its medieval counterparts
