The series is known for its memorable characters, engaging storylines, and innovative gameplay mechanics.]]>

The Legend of Zelda is a popular video game franchise developed by Nintendo. The series began in 1986 with the release of the first game on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), and has since become one of Nintendo's most successful and enduring franchises.

The games typically follow the adventures of a young hero named Link as he sets out to rescue Princess Zelda and save the kingdom of Hyrule from various villains, such as the evil wizard Ganon. The gameplay is often centered around puzzle-solving, exploration, and combat.

In this article, Gurugamer is going to showcase the top 10 best Legend of Zelda games ever released.

1. Ocarina of Time

The top contenders were neck and neck, with Breath of the Wild being a strong contender. However, on further reflection, The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time is the pioneer and most influential game in the franchise and possibly in the history of gaming. This game was a breakthrough as it introduced the 3D world and revolutionized gameplay.

We were able to explore Hyrule in a fresh way, including traversing between two different periods to rescue the kingdom from Ganon. The game also introduced new musical scores and iconic characters like Shiek, Epona, and many more. Although the Water Temple was a frustrating challenge, every game has its flaws, but this game still reigns supreme and deserves its place at the top.

2. Breath of the Wild

The most recent addition to the series almost claimed the top spot as well. The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild was revealed during a challenging time for Nintendo, but it amazed everyone when it was announced. The game became a must-have for Nintendo Switch owners when it was launched and has become the highest-selling game in the franchise's history.

The game's key feature was its open-world design, which allowed players to freely explore and complete tasks in any order they desired, even completing mini-dungeons before the main ones. Additionally, the game boasted impressive voice acting, stunning graphics, and an enjoyable reimagining of the game's lore. Overall, Breath of the Wild was a delightful experience from beginning to end.

3. Twilight Princess

Our next selection may spark some debate, but we stand by our choice.

The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess is undoubtedly one of the franchise's finest games. One could argue that this game explored more somber and intense themes than its predecessors. Despite the limitations of the Wii system, the game boasted impressive visuals, and the motion controls were not as bad as many people remember.

Additionally, Twilight Princess introduced memorable characters like Midna and Wolf Link, and it featured the intriguing Twilight Realm. The game's dungeons and boss battles were also exceptional. The game's emotional ending is one of the most heart-wrenching, and it brings together a profound and impactful story that is a must-play.

4. A Link To The Past

There are games that take the foundation laid by their predecessors and build upon it so significantly that they become the benchmark for all future games. The Legend of Zelda A Link To The Past achieved this status in many ways for the franchise. Even when compared to later 3D titles, this game had everything that future Zelda games would offer and more.

Did you want an expansive world to explore? The game had it. Did you want to travel to different dimensions? The game had that too. Did you want to use various items to navigate through challenging dungeons? Yes, the game had that as well. Ganon and the Master Sword were also present in the game for the first time.

Overall, The Legend of Zelda A Link To The Past is a legendary game that encompasses everything that fans love about the franchise.

5. Majora's Mask

Nintendo wanted to continue capitalizing on the 3D style that had proven successful. The company instructed the Legend of Zelda team to develop a new title in under a year, which led to the creation of The Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask.

Zelda Majoras Mask 1024x576
Majora's Mask

Unlike other games in the franchise, Majora's Mask takes place in the land of Termina instead of Hyrule, among other significant differences.

In contrast to seven dungeons in previous games, Majora's Mask has only four. Additionally, the game introduces time travel elements that allow players to repeat the last three days before the moon crashes into Termina, destroying everything in its path. The mask mechanic and the "3 Days Remain" dynamic add a fun, strange, and challenging element to the game, which most fans consider one of the best in the series.

6. Skyward Sword

Some people have mixed opinions about The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword, which was released for the Wii. While many critics praised the game and its motion controls, fans had different views. However, upon reflection, it's possible to see both the strengths and weaknesses of the game.

Skyward Sword 1024x576

For example, the game serves as the origin story for the series, revealing the true connections between Zelda, Link, and Ganon, and how Hyrule came to be. The creation of the Master Sword is also depicted, and we see the price that was paid for it.

The characterization of Zelda in the game is particularly noteworthy, as she's not portrayed as a helpless princess, but as a strong and multi-dimensional character with a distinct personality.

Additionally, exploring the world of Skyloft and discovering more about the franchise's future lore was an enjoyable experience.

7. The Legend of Zelda (Original)

The inception of a franchise often marks a humble beginning. However, who could have predicted that one such game would pave the way for a legacy that lasts decades? The Legend of Zelda was born out of Shigeru Miyamoto's fascination with exploring his hometown, inspiring him to create the story of Link and his heroic mission to rescue Princess Zelda.

Loz Original 1024x576
The Legend of Zelda (Original)

The game was a game-changer in many ways, with too many advancements to count. Additionally, the game features classic lore right from the start, including the infamous characters such as Ganon and the Tri-Force.

The game's most significant advancements were the expansive overworld and intricate dungeons. These features were groundbreaking and had never been seen before in games of that era. This game set the tone for countless games to come in the future.

With 6.5 million units sold on the NES, the game became an instant hit and a legend in the making.

8. Link's Awakening Remake

It is noteworthy that the remake of a beloved game surpasses the original game in many ways. The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening Remake was a pleasant surprise when it was announced for the Nintendo Switch in 2019. Despite having an anime-style introduction, the game has a chibi-style of art that may initially appear off-putting, but don't be deceived - the game is still a classic in any form of art.

Furthermore, with the Switch, you can take the game anywhere you go. In addition, there is a new dungeon creator feature that adds to the game's enjoyment. All of the elements of the original game are present, but they are more spectacular than ever.

9. The Wind Waker

Following the success of the N64 titles, fans eagerly awaited the announcement of the next Zelda title on the new console. Nintendo first teased a 3D battle between Link and Ganon, but then revealed The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, which surprised many due to its cell-shaded look. Despite initial skepticism, the gameplay quickly won people over, and the game was recognized as a worthy addition to the franchise.

The story of the game was one of the darker entries in the series, with a flooded world, hidden protectors, and a king who was also a boat. However, the game's ranking on this list is lower due to the time-consuming nature of sailing to collect the Tri-Force, which was eventually fixed in later versions.

Despite this issue, the game was still fantastic, and the cell-shaded look was ultimately well-received by fans.

10. A Link Between Worlds

The Legend of Zelda A Link Between Worlds, which is considered the successor to the SNES classic, offers a fresh take on the formula by introducing the alternate universe of Lorule. This new realm features different versions of familiar characters, and Link must travel between them to save both worlds from a new, yet familiar threat.

The game is a perfect fit for the 3DS, as it uses its graphics to beautifully illustrate the world. It also introduces new mechanics, such as the ability to rent items from the enigmatic Ravi. The story is complex and features some exciting twists along the way. While it may not be as impressive as other games in the series, it still does an excellent job.

A movie/series based on The Legend of Zelda will be made

Recently, rumors have resurfaced about Netflix preparing for the first steps to soon start producing The Legend of Zelda movie. It’s also rumored that Netflix is looking for an actor to play the main character, Link, who will explore and rescue The Legend of Zelda. The most potential option for this character is currently Tom Holland, who played Spider-Man in recent products like Far From Home and Homecoming.

Playing Spiderman in recent Marvel movies, Tom Holland has built a reputation for himself in the cinematic world. Though it remains unknown if Tom Holland is in talks with Netflix or whether Netflix has chosen him for this product, the actor recently worked with Netflix in his newest film, The Devil All the Time. As Tom Holland has officially become a part of Netflix, it’s not too hard to speculate that he will likely play Link and hold the Master Sword.

Besides, according to Nintendo, there will be a Super Mario movie in 2022 with more media projects. So, it’s possible that we will see more rumors about The Legend of Zelda next year, many of which we hope will turn out true. In the past, Nintendo didn’t succeed in making their games into movies and series, such as the terrible Super Mario Bors movie released in 1993. After all, it’s not easy at all to bring a well-loved game to the screen.

A look at the Fishing minigames in games - and the best fishing minigames that you can play.]]>

Video games, sometimes, not just about going through the main storyline - and then you are done. There are some games, that even provide you with many other fun things to play with, so that you can have a moment of 'peace' before (or after) diving into the heat of battles. One of those mini-games that developers like to put into their games - is the fishing mini-games.

The charm of those fishing mini-games came from the mix of relaxation and challenge. Just like in real life, you can relax while watching the rippling waters, listening to music (in this case, the game's BGM) - but when a fish bite - you will face with a challenge (in a sense, a battle with the fish) that the game developers created for the game. The challenge can range from being a complex simulation of what you will have to do when fishing in real life or being just a simple task of pressing some buttons.

And today, let's talk about the five best fishing mini-games that you can enjoy in the recent video games.

Stardew Valley (PC, Almost All Modern Consoles, Mobile)

Stardew Valley is a game that - just like its source of inspiration Harvest Moon - provides players with many things to do in the game. From farming to dungeon crawling, to trying to get romances with girls like a dating sim, Stardew Valley provides it all. And of course, there is a fishing minigame inside this game, too. If you want to, you can even ignore the farming parts of the game to become a full-time fisher.

When you go fishing and get a bit, there is a small meter that will reveal itself. If you want to catch that fish, you will have to keep the fish icon within the small section of the meter. And of course, bigger, more valuable fishes are harder to catch and will require your focus to be at the next level. Because of this reason, fishing in Stardew Valley is a serious matter, and it's the 'serious part' of the game that opposes the light-hearted fun of farming in Stardew Valley.

Yakuza 6: The Song of Life (PS4)

To fans of the Yakuza franchise, all Yakuza games can also be called a 'mini-games simulator', because this franchise bringing a lot of different mini-games into the table - alongside the more serious 'criminal melodrama' of the main storyline. Of course, the fishing minigame is a part of Yakuza's wide lineup of minigames. However, Yakuza 6 brings a great twist to the table: speargun fishing.

In this game, you will have to control the protagonist Kazuma Kiryu, using a speargun to blast at the fish in a classic arcade game fashion. And, spoiler alert, there is also a boss battle against sharks in the minigame. And this silly minigame is one of those things that contribute to a more fun side of Yakuza - a game about the bloody life of a Japanese 'criminal'.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses (Nintendo Switch)

Fishing can be considered as a great hobby for Byleth - the protagonist of Fire Emblem Three Houses - and also of those who play this game. The reason for this is because fishing is a great way to raise Byleth's professor rank without spending activity points - and when your prof. rank increase, you can do even more things in your limited free time between battles. About the minigame, it's really simple - you have to press that A button in a rhythm so that the fish's stamina gauge went to 0 - and a missed input will make your stamina gauge decrease. Perfect input will net you a more valuable fish, that in turn, raise more of your prof. rank.

Final Fantasy XV (PS4, PC)

According to many players who play Final Fantasy XV, the fishing minigame, along with cooking, is one of the better portions of Prince Noctis' adventure. The minigame consists of many different portions that simulate fishing in real life, including managing the strain of the fishing line, reeling, and pulling with quick-time events. Along with that, there is even a side quest that will let you catch a gigantic legendary fish.

Honorable Mention: Red Dead Redemption 2 (PS4, PC)

The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time

Why an old game like 'The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time' is on this list? The reason for this is with many older gamers, the fishing minigame in Ocarina of Time is also their first exposure to fishing inside a game - and many can't ever forget the experience of catching the Hylian Loach the hard way.

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening will be available on September 20 for Nintendo Switch]]>

The last Nintendo Direct event and E3 event has brought to all Zelda fans a new game to play while waiting for the sequel of Breath of the Wild - which is The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. This new game is a modern remake of the classic Zelda game for the Game Boy back in the 90s.

And below is everything we know about the upcoming remake of Link's Awakening:

The adventure set in Koholint Island

Back in the days, Link’s Awakening was the first-ever handheld Zelda game. This game is one of those rare game that doesn't take place in Hyrule. Instead, the game is set on Koholint Island. In this Island, Link will have to collect all eight magical musical instruments to fight against the Nightmare known as Dethl. This is also a Zelda game that does not feature Zelda anywhere at all - at least that's how the original version goes.

Instead, in the game, you will find many items that are homages to characters from other Nintendo games - including the familiar Chain Chomp from Super Mario Bros, a plush Yoshi, Goombas, along with many characters.

And the demo of the game that was featured during the E3 events has featured a house that stored all the Mario collectibles - so we are now sure that all the original Mario cameos are kept intact in this remake.

The game looks like a 1:1 remake of the original game

the legend of zelda links awakening e3 2019 hands on link s 2

While Nintendo has added to the game some new landmarks and features, most of the game will stay identical to the original Game Boy release - thus being a remake that completely faithful to the original game. All the original puzzles, dungeons, and overworld layout of the Game Boy version will be kept intact.

With some improvements thrown in here and there

The remake has been included with some minor quality-of-life improvements, such as an easier way for you to manage your inventory, as well as helping you on exploration missions. For example, Link's shield will no longer sit in one of the two item slots - therefore saving you time by not having to open menu and swapping between the shield and the key items.

Another change to the game comes from many modern games with an open-world element, where you can mark points of interest on the map. This change will help you marking all the collectibles that you can't collect at the moment so that when you progressed further into the game, you can return to the previous point to get the collectibles.

You can now design your own dungeons in the game

This is a new feature in the remake, named Chamber Dungeons. Chamber Dungeons is a new dungeon editor mode, which is located in Tal Tal Heights. By clearing dungeons in your adventure, you’ll unlock pre-made dungeon rooms, which you can combine to create your own dungeons inside the game. You can think of those as a Legend of Zelda Maker mode.

However, at the moment, Nintendo has not confirmed if you can share your creations over the network via Nintendo Online or not.

The game will feature a collaboration between Grezzo and Nintendo

The remake of Link's Awakening was made in collaboration with Japanese developer Grezzo. In the past, Grezzo has worked on the 3DS ports of Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, and Luigi’s Mansion.

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening will be available on September 20 for Nintendo Switch. Along with the standard edition that costs $60, Nintendo is also releasing a Limited Edition that features a special version of the artbook and a steel bookcase resembling the original Game Boy title screen, at the cost of $70.

<![CDATA[Sparklite Is A Fun Zelda-Inspired Roguelike Coming Later This Year]]> https://gurugamer.com/pc-console/sparklite-is-a-fun-zelda-inspired-roguelike-coming-later-this-year-2091 Thu, 21 Mar 2019 10:31:43 +0000 https://gurugamer.com/pc-console/sparklite-is-a-fun-zelda-inspired-roguelike-coming-later-this-year-2091
Sparklite is a new roguelike coming to PC and consoles that draws inspiration from The Legend of Zelda, but adds some interesting twists.]]>

With the success of games such as Into the Breach or Dead Cells, roguelike games are turning into a trend in indie gaming. Sparklite is an upcoming title of this genre that is coming later this year for PC, PS4, and Switch. It is very similar to The Legend of Zelda games, but brings an interesting twist to the established formula by adding randomly-generated levels and harsh death penalties.

The protagonist of Sparklite is Ada – who, instead of a sword and a shield, wields gadgets such as hammers and wrenches. Still, this looks and feels like a Zelda game, more specifically the older 16-bit ones like The Minish Cap and A Link to the Past. The nostalgia is real.

Sparklite3
The 16-bit graphics are reminiscent of the old Zelda games

What makes Sparklite different from Zelda comes when you die, or pass out, rather. You will be retrieved and healed by an airship, and when you are on this ship, you can spend sparklite (the resource that you collect during your journey) to upgrade your character. Upgrades can include getting extra health or new gadgets.

Sparklite4
Spend sparklite to upgrade your character

So, even though you lose your progress and a part of the items you have in your inventory, you will have an opportunity to increase your power.

Another difference is that you’ll have a gun, which can be upgraded as well. This gun runs on energy – a resource that can be recharged by damaging enemies with melee attacks.

Death is not just simply a chance to get upgrades, however. Every time you die, the game world changes, and your objective will be moved to another location. You can still see where it is on your map, so this isn’t too punishing, but the altered layout makes each run feel fresh.

Sparklite1
The levels change every time you return

In term of graphics, Sparklite uses the pixelated art style often seen in the classic Zelda games. It’s colorful and beautiful in its own way. This combined with the changing layout means you won’t be getting tired of it anytime soon.

It’s true that roguelikes are often seen as outdated with so many modern-graphic titles out there, but Sparklite is beautiful and entertaining, and it’s definitely a game that you’ll want to keep an eye out for if you’re a fan of the Zelda franchise – or just of the roguelike genre in general.
