Overview on Battle Realms

To the point that even Blizzard staff have to say that Battle Realms feels better than the current version of Warcraft III, you can already expect how good this relaunch version will be. But if you're new to the gaming industry and haven't heard about this game yet, here's a brief overview on the game:

Battle Realms is an RTS game with its unique concept taking inspiration from kung-fu movies and Far Eastern Asia's mythologies. You can expect a lot of Asian values to feature in this game, such as Yin and Yang, Ninja, Monk or Zen Masters.

From the starting point of a small village, you'll have to lead the peasant here to develop it into a mighty clan of frightening fighters. In order to do that, you'll have to send your workers to collect resources and use them to train your peasants into fierce soldiers with ultimate sieging forces. The micromanagement in this game is not all over the place, so you don't have to worry too much.

However, it's not mediocre either, since Battle Realms features one of the strangest troops developing mechanics in the industry. To be more specific, your soldiers won't jump on their mounts immediately out of the cage, as they'll have to start walking on their foot first. Your task is to lead them to find the wild horses, capture them for taming, and then finally bring them to the stable.

Now that you've already raised your mounts, you can finally allow your soldiers to ride their warhorses, as well as give them equipment for the battle. Once you're ready with your powerful upgrades, unleash them to your foes' territories.

Speaking about the battles, your cavalry will also function differently on the ground you are standing. Specifically, your troops will deal more damage if you're on the high ground, and if you're in an unfavorable position, you can command your army to hide behind trees to force your enemies to get closer.

Other features and release date

With this re-release, the developer aims to make Battle Realms viable for modern PC, ramping its supported resolution up to 1600 x 1200 maximum. Furthermore, the only expansion of the game - Winter of the Wolf coming out in 2002 to tell the story of the Wolf Clan will also be integrated with this launch.

The Early Access version of the Battle Realms will be available on Steam on December 3, and will very likely to stay there for a year with nearly the same complete level with the 2001 version. It will feature the single-player campaign mode as well as a 2v2 multiplayer mode in this early stage too.

First of all, all of the survivors have their virtues and distinctive viewpoint on issues, and each prefers different results of goals. For example, some want to look into the reason for their crash, some want to stay safe away from the enemies' sights first. Some are even expecting desertion, making the task of survival extremely difficult.

Will their journey become a smooth escaping route, or will it turn into a complete disaster where no one comes out alive?

Gameplay features

Broken Lines is a heavy-narrative real-time strategy game, where you'll have to lead this ragtag team of 8 soldiers overcoming their difficulty. Unlike other RTS games where the story doesn't matter too much, Broken Lines features an intriguing survival story where each of your decisions will affect the outcome of the whole story.

To be more specific, the group has to face a lot of tough situations in their journey, which will be told through rich narrative lines from all 8 characters. At times, you'll have to make decisions on how to deal with those situations: whether to aid the people in need or just abandon their demands for the sake of the whole group.

Being a leader is never an easy task, as you are always tortured between the ideas of the major and the minor. Your choices will change the attitudes of the members on your leadership status, and if you failed to prove that you're a rightful leader, some of them will abandon the crew at any moment.

Not only do you have to cope with inner problems but also the threat from the troops around you as well. That's where the turn-based RTS combats kick in - as you'll plan your characters' moves, and they'll execute it simultaneously for the best approach with each gunfight. Broken Lines feature permadeath mechanics, so if anyone from your team dies, they're gone for good!

Through battles and exploration, you'll gain equipment and weapons to help you with future fights. They include guns, ammo, armor and other consumable stuff to restore your character's HP. The characters also level up through the battles as well, which allows you to learn new skills for them that match their roles in the group.

Release date and supported platforms

Broken Lines are planned to release in Q1 2020 for PC via Steam. However, the specific release date hasn't been announced yet.

Stronghold: Warlords is the next 'castle-sim RTS' game in the Stronghold series. This time, it will portray the ancient war in the Far East, featuring 4 regions including Japanese, Chinese, Mongolian and Vietnam. Your task in this game is very simple: build your Stronghold and deploy troops to siege others'.

To be your specific, you can step into the epic leader of many races - from Genghis Khan's leading troops of Mongol horseman to the Shogun of samurai clansmen. For the first time in the series, you can recruit 'Warlords" - the leader of your troops. They have their distinctive characteristic and certain power that brings certain abilities and power to your army. Those powers are upgradable and the more prosperous your castle is, the more powerful they'll become.

In order to develop your castle, you'll have to manage the industry, including applying taxation to gain some money. Using the money and resources you've collected, you then will fortify your borders and develop advanced weapons, equip it to your troops and start invading the others'. Stronghold: Warlords has 3 different play modes, including campaign, skirmish and multiplayer, which you can enjoy at your will.

Deep strategic elements with many kinds of units

In order to protect and expand your territories, you'll have to precisely deploy your troops consist of certain units. Each kind of unit is useful in certain situations, such as the light and small troops for small and surprise skirmishes, or the heavily-armored ones for large-scale sieging. The trailer above has shown the units from Vietnamese and Chinese.

To be more specific, the Vietnamese units are the Spear Tribesman and Blowpipe Tribesman that takes the inspiration from the first Vietnamese military troops back in the 300th century BC. They're cheap to deploy, and due to their light equipment, they attack very fast and very mobile. However, due to their short-range and low-damage, they'll take forever to siege down castles, so you should consider choosing other types for that task.

The Chinese units are much more diverse, which are mainly separated into two categories: The Auxiliary and the Imperial.

First of all, the Auxiliary category consists of two types - the Archers and the Axemen. The Archers shine when it comes to defending your troops, since they're light-armored and can deliver rains of arrows if you put them into the right spot to make use of their far range. Additionally, they can also deploy traps to prevent your opponents from approaching your territories - a perfect method of preemption.

The Axeman is on the opposite sides, as they excel at low-range combat. They wear heavy armors, so they're very tanky, being able to stand on the front lines and absorbing the damage for the fragile backline. They're also good at defending too since your opponents won't have a great time passing the gate that they're holding.

The Imperial type is much more expensive, and they need a longer time to make as well. Including Bannermen and Crossbowmen, they'll pay off their cost by the ability to deal tons of damage and have a lot of health to tank damage. They're definitely a must when it comes to attacking.

Release date

Above are only two of the race that you can deploy in Stronghold: Warlords. At launch, the game will include the Japanese and Mongolian troops as well, and information about them is likely to come in the near future.

A Year Of Rain takes place in a fantasy world, where resources are very limited, but there are a lot of people desperate to get them.  To be more specific, the severe environment and endless wars have tortured the land, and now everyone has to fight to live for every single day. But the more war people's make, the more damage the land will get.

Hence, people are stuck in the limbo of fighting and dying. Fortunately, in the middle of this chaos, there are two friends that want to break this loop and bring peace back to the land. A soldier of the morning sun and a son of a mighty royal clan - will this combination enough to put a stop to this endless war?

Gameplay features

As I've mentioned, A Year Of Rain is a real-time strategy game, in which you will become the leader of one in three factions. They're House Rupah, the Wild Banners and the Restless Regiment, and each of them has its distinctive elements.

For example, House Rupah is very wealthy and wants to bring civilization to the land as they rule, while the Wild Banners are on literally the opposite front, as they want to live as they've always been naturally. The last one, the Restless Regiment is the army of tribals warlords, soldiers and doesn't care about the thing that the other two called "home".

The gameplay of A Year Of Rain is very similar to Warcraft 3: send minions to gather resources, build up some constructions and recruiting troops to protect and conquer the land. All constructions and units are upgradable, which will add more power to your factions.

Furthermore, this game also brings the MOBA-style characters into the land as well. They'll lead your army to the battle, and provide a brand new sky of strategies to the battles. At the beginning of every match, you can choose your suitable playstyle from the Tank, the Damage Dealer, and the Support. This role will not only give certain buffs for your hero and some exclusive abilities but also give your teammate a clearer look at what task you'll take care of in battles.

Speaking about teammate, you can also invite another friend in to help you with the conquer. This game is designed to best-played by a team of two, which gives you more time to focus on certain tasks. But if you're alone, that's not the problem, as the AI will help you deploy armies following your broad plan.

The developer Solid Clouds has primed their upcoming MMORTS game - Starborne as the most ambitious PC strategy title of years, and they have a great reason for it. Starborne is a space strategy game, in which you can make your name remember by building your empire and conquer the universe!

Overview of Starborne

As I've mentioned, Starborne is an MMORTS game - which puts thousands of players into the same universe, planning and building their empire. It's the brainchild from Solid Clouds - the developer that consists of several former creators behind Eve Online. They've been working on Starborne for over six years, and it's time to put it to the limelight!

The concept of this game is quite simple: you start with your base in space and start to expand your territory over the vast universe. There are six specializations that you can choose from, each of which has unique skills and playstyles. Your task is to become the biggest power in this galaxy and make name remembered throughout the times.

In order to do that, you'll have to gather resources to build up your empire from systems of construction. Building fleets, broadening your borders, and fulfill missions to pillage planets to fuel your economy. Not only the resources but also the room of the galaxy are limited - so, conflicts are unavoidable.

There will be times that you encounter other enemies through your expanding progress. At those moments, you have two choices to react to. The first one is to sabotage their fleets with your firepowers. If you choose this approach, you'll head into the epic RTS battles, commanding your ships to outgun your opponents with certain strategies. To be more specific, you'll have to carefully plan when is the time to strike, which fleets will be useful in which battles, and co-operate with your allies for the most unexpected flank.

The second one is much softer - solving the conflicts through diplomatic means. You can offer other players with resource exchanging and also form an alliance, peacefully developing without interfering with others' situations. However, the diplomatic landscape in space is very fragile, and you must always be aware of your back!

About Circle Empires Rivals

Circle Empires Rivals is the sequel of Circle Empires - the award-winning RTS game that came out in 2018. And while Luminous want to replicate the features that have brought Circle Empires success, the developer also packs some new features in this game as well!

To be more specific, you will be the ruler of a kingdom in a circle, and you'll have to send your troops to the other kingdoms' territory to take over them. In order to spread your kingdom, you'll have to hire over 25 factions leaders, each has its distinctive abilities. After creating your mightiest army ever, send them to seize others; defense lines, and claim your own land.

As soon as you've successfully conquered your land, you can start to loot many items there, and use your skill points that you've gained to upgrade your units and further expand your territory, circle by circle. Additionally, there are several boss monsters, which you can defeat and gain a huge amount of money, EXP and rare drops from them.

However, while you're busy conquering, the enemies will strike you from other sides as well. Hence, you'll have to form your own defense line, choosing from over 250 buildings and creatures to guard your kingdom while your troops are not there. Balancing between defending and attacking is the key to lead you to the final throne.

Still featuring the fan-favorite fast-paced RTS gameplay, this game will allow you to play not only solo but also with other friends as well. Thus, you can invite your friend to conquer the world together, or work against them to find who is the best at RTS game.

The concept of RTS (real-time strategy) games makes it very difficult to bring them to consoles. Most developers thought that the complicated controls in RTS games are not suitable for playing with controllers, so they mainly deliver their game to PC-only.

However, studio Tower Five did not think so. And to prove their standpoint, it has delivered a brand new action-RTS game namely Lornsword Winter Chronicle for PS4 and Xbox One. And since it's one of few ways to have grand strategy fun on consoles, I absolutely adore this game.

The story of Lornsword Winter Chronicle

The developer Tower Five has decided to remain mysterious when it comes to the story of Lornsword Winter Chronicle. In fact, it's a heavy narrative game, in which players will learn about the Winter Chronicles in a fictional land. However, as it wants to give players a completely new look into the story, Tower Five didn't reveal much about what happens in this game.

Instead, we only have some details on the game's background. You'll step into the shoes of a brave warrior named Corun Lan Ka. The empire of Lorn is counting on you, and as the greatest Lornknight, you'll have to lead your army through epic battles, set up your economy, and make it great!

Gameplay features

Lornsword Winter Chronicle is the first action RTS game made especially for consoles. In order to make the control over your army easier, the developer binds every task with a distinctive button.

In fact, the developer said that it's best to play this game with consoles, and you can use any kind of controller to play it, from the Dualshock to the Xbox Ones and even Steam controller. Furthermore, not only does it has good control but it also has high-quality graphics as well, with 60FPS gameplay on both PS4 and Xbox One.

The nature of an action game requires you to control Corun Lan Ka to become the true leader on the battlefield. There, you'll have to fight alongside your soldiers, explore the great land of Lorn and capturing many locations for pillaging. That's when you show off your strategic prowess, managing resources, upgrade your unit and planning your approach to the battle in real-time.

The single-player campaign story will last for at least 30 hours, containing various chapters with customizable difficulty. If you're feeling too challenging to win a battle, you can try again with lower difficulty levels. The special thing about this game's story is that you don't have to win every battle in order to come to a new chapter. as you can skip several of them without too many problems.

Last but not least, hacking and slashing your way through the battles and making orders for your troops is too hard to deal with on your own. So, the game will make it easier for you by allowing to invite a second player into the battle at any time. They'll play as Lassia - the trusty assistant of Corun, which will become a brutal soldier in battle.

If you opt to do so, you'll share your screen with your friends, and feel free to do your task together at the same time. You can focus on leading your troops, and your friends will take care of the fight for you, or vice versa. If he/she needs to drop out in the middle of the game, feel free to let them, as you can do this immediately without any penalty.

In the Solo Campaign, the game is set in a conflict between NATO forces and Russia. You will be in charge of a platoon at the Belarus gates in Poland and join the adventure of two brothers. Your mission is to fight against the Russian army and prevent them from taking over Ukraine. This campaign will give you a total of 6 missions which lasts about 5 to 6 hours. It's also a really good way for beginners to get used to the gameplay and mechanics.

The Solo Skirmish mode will let you play versus AI on multiplayer maps with a total of 6 missions.

The Cooperation mode will let you cooperate with your friends on 3 maps to complete many objectives such as capturing strategic points.

The Multiplayer will let you play against other players 1 vs 1 or team up a friend of yours to play 2 vs 2. There are a total of 3 maps for 1 vs 1 mode and one map for 2 vs 2 mode, which can also be used for 1 vs 1.

Hell of Men: Two Brothers introduces the cover system for infantry, class combinations, the firepower and resistance of vehicles, which you will have to learn to fully utilize all of them. Recently, in PAX West, the developer has just announced the game along with an announce trailer. Homeworld 3 is the latest installment of the real-time strategy (RTS) game franchise Homeworld. There is currently very little information about Homeworld 3 as the game is still in the pre-production phase. The developer has opened a crowdfunding campaign with a $1 funding goal on Fig so players can support the development of the game. It seems that they are checking if this sequel will attract a lot of players or not and the result is looking good so far with more than $400,000 in just 2 days. Besides, this is also a great way for the developer to know what the fans want from the game such as features, priorities and even the content of the collector’s edition.
