What put it ahead of its time?

One thing was the design. It just looked cool. With the rounded edges and futuristic sleek black design, it looked cool and fit in your hands superbly. People wanted it as a fashion icon as well as a gaming device. The screen was huge and made it easy to game in the dark.

One of the best things the PSP had to offer was the graphics. Despite Sony only working with PS2 graphics, the PS3 would not be released until 2006 in Japan and America (2007 in Europe), the PSP graphics were a huge step up from anything that Nintendo had previously created. It did really feel like you were playing your PS2 in your hands.

It was way ahead of any mobile gaming that was being released at the time as well. With mobile gaming on the rise with phones improving and Nokia making the N-Gage in 2003, Sony held their own with the PSP.

PS Vita

In 2012, the Vita replaced the PSP but all those strong foundations that the PSP had laid were built on. The Vita, although not as big as the PSP, was a commercial success. Many people still play the Vita today and you can still buy one for around £100.

Resident Evil 4 Remake

The Callisto Protocol

This is a new story-driven, single-player survival horror game from the creators of Dead Space. In this game, players would fight to survive the horrors locked within the walls of Black Iron Prison after a mysterious outbreak throws it into chaos. Jacob will battle the prison’s guards and inmates, who are mutating into creatures called Biophage, as he uncovers the mysteries of the moon, its prison, and the United Jupiter Company who runs it.

The game used to be part of the PUBG universe, but after bad reception from fans, the devs have decided to scrap that element.

Spider-Man: Remastered PC port

Looks like almost all PlayStation exclusive titles are coming to PC. Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered is coming to Windows PC on Aug. 12. In the clip of Sony, we have seen the loading time of the new PS5 is really great, much shorter than the loading time of the PS4 Pro. There have not been any confirmations for the reason of this fast loading time, but we believe the reason is the SSD hard drive of the PS5. In the interview of Mark Cerny last month, he confirmed that the SSD would be a core feature of the PS5, beside an AMD chip and graphics card. If PS5 can be this good, and have the backward capability for PS4 games, then it is surely a worthy investment.

Most of us would agree that we ‘kinda’ have enough types of consoles in the gaming industry nowadays. PlayStation series (with PS4 is the newest model), Xbox series (with Xbox One X is the newest model), Nintendo Switch are enough for us to entertain ourselves with all the great games in these three consoles. But not everyone thinks so.

Slightly Mad Studios has announced that it would release a totally new console for gamers. This gaming studio’s aim is to have a console that will be competing with PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo. To make thing even cooler, this gaming studio calls its console The Mad Box, and it declared that The Mad Box would take the place as “the most powerful console ever built.”

CEO of Slightly Mad Studios Ian Bell has confidently said that

“What is the Mad Box? It’s the most powerful console ever built. It’s literally ‘Mad.’”

But things are not going the way Slightly Mad Studios wants. Just recently, Google announced its online game streaming service – Google Stadia. This service will charge you a certain amount of monthly fee, but in return, you will have access to the gaming library of Google. And your device will only serve as a streaming tool because the computer of Google will do all the processing work.

This is great news for gamers with a tight budget since now we can play the AAA games that only supposed for PC on our tablets or smartphones, as long as we can have an internet connection faster than 27mbps. Nevertheless, the console and PC producers are not that happy. If Google Stadia works, it might be the end of the reign of consoles and high-end PCs. And The Mad Box shares the same fear, especially when it is not released yet.

Google also said in their introduction of Google Stadia that “The future of gaming isn’t in a box.” And this hurts Slightly Mad Studios so hard that now it has to reconsider the “box” part in the name of its console. Will The Mad Box ever be born? We might have to wait and see. But Slightly Mad Studios is really determined with this project, and it has promised a lot of great features in its console. Hopefully, it can deliver its promises.

We all say to each other that the gaming industry now consists of 3 fields: PC gaming, console gaming, and mobile gaming. While mobile games and PC games can be played on the players’ devices immediately (if the devices can run the game), console gamers have to buy the consoles first, and then buy the game later. The last time Sony counted PS3 sales numbers was in November 2013. In that announcement, Sony also claimed to sell 7.1 million copies of PS3 in the fiscal year 2013. In the report for the fiscal year since 2014, Sony only includes the sale number for PS4, so we could not say for sure how many PS3 copies have been sold totally. Well, not much to introduce this classic bad boy. Perhaps all gamers who were born before the 21st century have played this console at least one. With nearly 159 million copied sold all over the world, it would be long until we can see another console breaks PS2’s selling record.

So an Iron Man video game is coming. However, usually talking about super-hero video games, we talk about Batman and Spider-Man with the thrills of flying over the city to attack the bad guys in your amazing suit and gears. But, if you bored of them already, don't worry because another superhero is coming in his suit. Iron Man VR is coming to PlayStation 4.

Iron Man VR

From just the name alone, I think you could figure out one thing or two about this upcoming game already. Iron Man VR is a PlayStation VR game with the whole game is about the favorite billionaire of everyone and the sassy playboy, Tony Stark. We don't know yet how many percentages of that yet. But taking from the semi-cinematic trailer below that Sony has released during its Play live stream it has a lot of shooting on the high-sky.

From the official blog of Marvel, we have a brisk post saying that this Iron VR game is a mission for Tony Stark to go against his past ghosts which seek to destroy everything he cares about. The players will be in the role of fighting against Super Villains and iconic allies as they are jet around the globe in heroic missions to save the world and Stark Industries.

The Impulse Armour

Adi Granov, the costume designer and illustrator at Marvel, has made a special Iron Man suit for this game. It is kinda a spruced-up version of the usual Iron Man suit we usually see, known as Impulse Armour. It looks quite good, we could say that he has added some modern and sleek twist to the classic comic book design of Tony. And surely, in this VR game, we get to punch airplane into bits with the suit.

Sony Interactive Entertainment, Marvel Games, and the developer Camouflaj have worked together to release Iron Man VR. They expect to launch it on PlayStation VR at the end of 2019.

Iron Man VR is a collaboration between developer Camouflaj, Sony Interactive Entertainment, and Marvel Games, and is due to launch on PSVR later this year.

Perhaps as PlayStation players chose PlayerUnknown’s Battleground for entertainment during the Christmas season last year. After being officially docked at PlayStation, PUBG was received by many players. Today, the PlayStation announced the list of the most downloaded games in last month on its blog and it's quite surprising.

Although the games in the PlayStation Store are not free to play, PUBG still managed to become the most downloaded game in December 2018. The game has been released for 2 years but still has the appeal and beat the new games earlier 2019 such as Battlefield V or Black Ops 4. It seems that PUBG's popularity and attraction have not decreased significantly after two years of operation. Besides PUBG, Grand Theft Auto V and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 also have a lot of downloads in this list.

In December 2017, PUBG appeared on consoles and exclusively in Xbox at that time. In July December last year, the PlayStation officially announced PUBG will appear on its platform. PS4 clients have been announced that Sony is updating their PS4 with some new features

And if you don't know yet, Sony's PlayStation Now is a platform which contains more than 500 unique games.

This incorporates games from PS2 to PS4, which are all gushed straight to your platform.

It was also declared that the firm was updating how their PS Now functioned, by letting players download titles on PS4.

The subscription's price is £12.99 (Rs 1234) every month and you will have to pay £84.99 (Rs 8078) for a yearly subscription.

However, PS Plus is excluded from the PS Now subscription.

Fortunately, Sony routinely changes the list of PS4 titles that are allowed to be downloaded, something that only occurred recently.

The PlayStation 4 is turning 5 years old next month. Now, Sony has confirmed that it is working on the next generation of the console. The fact that Sony will produce a successor to the PS4, though, is nothing surprising. After all, it is one of Sony’s most lucrative hardware products. With more than 81.2 million units sold worldwide so far, the PS4 has already surpassed what the PS3 achieved in its entire life cycle, although not quite comparable to the 155 million of PlayStation 2. On a side note, the PS2 is still the all-time best-selling gaming console at the moment.

Since its launch in November 2013, PS4 has put the gaming department at the top of Sony’s top-performing businesses list.  In a year from March 2017 to March 2018, the gaming business brought Sony 1.94 trillion yen ($17.53 billion). This is almost a quarter of the company’s total revenue of $75 billion in that period.

The next PlayStation will reportedly not depart too far from the PS4. Speculation is that it will likely be compatible with games of the current generation.

Many people have observed that the time of traditional consoles is coming to an end. Right now though, Sony seems to disagree. Sony Interactive Entertainment’s previous CEO, Andrew House, believes that the next generation of consoles will probably still operate with physical discs, besides virtual downloads through Steam. House stated that the gaming industry might be turning towards a future where game-streaming reigns supreme, but “the business model has to be thought through.”

House was in charge of the PlayStation department when Sony bought Gaikai – a game-streaming platform – in 2012. Using this as a foundation, Sony released its own game-streaming service, PlayStation Now, in 2014. Using this service, customers can access over 500 PlayStation 2, 3, 4 games on-demand. They can also download PS4 and remastered PS2 games if they wish. Of course, this service is only on PS4 or PC.

While PS4 was the first major console to offer game-streaming, other giants such as Microsoft and Nintendo are now following. Nintendo is experimenting with streaming hardware-demanding games such as Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey or Resident Evil 7 Biohazard on their Nintendo Switch, even though this portable console is not strong enough to run these games on its own. Microsoft has also recently announced a Project xCloud. This project aims at providing access to Xbox One Games on other devices such as smartphones and tablets. Reportedly, the company intends for Project xCloud to be the foundation of a console that focuses on streaming games in the future. Microsoft’s plan is to release this new console at around the same time as the next Xbox.

Google is also developing its own streaming platform called Project Stream. Recently it has established a partnership with Ubisoft to stream the video game company’s latest hit Assasssin’s Creed: Odyssey on Chrome browser.

We can watch movies or listen to music online without  having to store them in our own hard drive, so why can't we do the same with gaming? According to Andrew House, technical limits are the only reasons. John Kodera also states that online services will be a crucial part of the next PlayStation generation. “We’re no longer in a time when you can think just about the console or just about the network like they’re two different things”, he said.
