Disney has revealed that the standalone movie about Black Widow won’t be released in early November as initially planned. Instead, the blockbuster will be released next summer.

The international media has reported that Marvel Studios’ spy thriller Black Widow has officially changed its release date. If it was scheduled to hit wide screens on November 06 (according to the latest announcement), Scarlett Johansson’s standalone movie will be available at the theatre since May 07, 2021.

There have been some rumors about Disney and Marvel Studios’ decision to postpone Black Widow for several weeks. Accordingly, the reason behind it is supposedly because there has been no sign to recover in the cinematic market in North America.

While theatres in both New York and Los Angeles are still frozen due to the COVID-19 pandemic and only about 70% of the cinema cluster come back to their normal operation, director Christopher Nolan’s Tenet hasn’t even collected $40 million after more than two weeks of its release on the world’s largest cinematic market.

Black Widow plays a vital role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe; and therefore, the following movies of this superhero trademark have no choice but to change their release dates. It worth mentioning that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Rings will be the MCU movie right after Black Widow, instead of Eternals. The movie about character Shang-Chi is expected to release on July 09, 2021.

Eternals is also shifted to November 05, 2021 - one year later than the first plan before the filmmakers decided to move to February next year due to the COVID-19 epidemic.

Besides the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Disney has also changed the release dates of some projects produced by Fox before the acquisition in early 2019. Death On The Nile - the next movie about Detective Hercule Poirot (Kenneth Branagh) after Murder On The Orient Express (2017) - that is scheduled to be released on December 18, instead of October 23 as initially planned.

West Side Story - a musical drama movie that is directed by legendary director Steven Spielberg - isn’t reportedly released on December 10. Instead, the audience will have to keep waiting until December 18, 2021. Accordingly, this movie will no longer appear on the Film Festival 2020 - 2021.

Speaking of Deep Water, it is scheduled to release on August 13, 2021, instead of on November 13. The thriller movie stars Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas as the main characters.

According to Variety magazine, the changes in Disney’s release dates must make the owners of the theatres that has just re-opened face lots of difficulties. From now to mid-November when 007: No Time To Die is scheduled to release, they will have no notable movie to attract the audience to the theatres.

A few days ago, the internet was taken by storm after the much-awaited Wonder Woman 1984’s release date was extended to Christmas Day. The US audiences aren't ready to come back to the cinema

One of the most emotional scenes in Avengers: Endgame (a movie that had no shortage of them) was the death of Black Widow. Natasha Romanoff had been a mainstay character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since her introduction in Iron Man 2 in 2009, and watching her depart after a decade of being the most recurring heroine in the MCU was heartbreaking.

While it will be great to see her again in the next Black Widow movie, which will be coming as a prequel, fans are still hopeful that Marvel can find a way to revive her character for a post- Avengers: Endgame movie. The possibility that this could happen is more feasible than might be expected and could be linked to a plot point that at first glance may have seemed like a continuity error.

How one minor detail in Endgame proves Black Widow is not truly dead

In Infinity War, Thanos traveled to Vormir to get the Soul Stone, where he was told that he had to sacrifice someone he loved to acquire it. At first, Gamora offered to sacrifice herself, but Thanos stopped her, reasoning that her suicide would be a sacrifice on her part and not his. Thanos then killed her himself, allowing him to obtain the gem.

Following this theory, this actually contradicts Black Widow and Hawkeye's journey to Vormir in Avengers: Endgame. We clearly see that Black Widow commits suicide in this scenario, however, Clint Barton gets the Soul Stone. Therefore, it is not too exaggerated to believe that Natasha really could be brought back to life.

True, we saw a body, which by Marvel standards tends to mean literal death. Still, the fact that her sacrifice was used to retrieve the Soul Stone may suggest a spiritual transaction. Perhaps instead of actually dying, her soul was displaced, perhaps inside the stone or on another plane of existence. When Bruce Banner said he tried to bring her back but couldn't, perhaps the reason for this was that she wasn't really dead.

Furthermore, there could be a relationship between Natasha and the Soul Stone that we are not fully aware of. Perhaps she was more aware of what would actually constitute a "sacrifice" on her part, and Hawkeye was not, and perhaps her next film could shed some light on this.

The Hydra-Natasha connection

While the events in Black Widow are confirmed to take place after Captain America: Civil War, we also know that this movie will also delve into the character's origin story and finally clarify her training as a Russian spy. This movie is another way of relating Natasha to the Soul Stone and could involve an organization that is firmly affiliated with it: Hydra.

Russia's involvement in World War II meant that they certainly had contact with Hydra. Possibly there were Soviet officers who even deserted the organization (as did Americans), and they could have obtained more information about the Soul Stone in their dealings with Red Skull.

Perhaps Natasha will find out more information about the gem in this movie, and in Endgame she knowingly gave her life, knowing that she wasn't going to die at all. In that case, perhaps we can expect a post-credits scene in Black Widow that announces Natasha's return to the timeline after Endgame.

A few problems with this theory

Of course, there are a few things about this theory that seem a bit problematic. If she knew it was safe for her to sacrifice herself, why didn't she tell Hawkeye about it? They certainly would not have had to go through the trouble of that suicide fight, as wonderful to behold as it was.

Perhaps, however, Natasha still needed to pretend that she knew she was giving her own life. Perhaps Red Skull would have prevented them from acquiring the gem if he felt that Black Widow was breaking the rules. Maybe that's why the stone was given to Hawkeye, since his pain was real, even if Natasha's death was not.

Maybe it's a crazy theory, but here we are talking about Marvel, so logic and science have little to do with storytelling. If they decide that reviving Natasha would work at the story level, and as a way to appease fans, then opening up this avenue is as good as any other. For now, we can be grateful that Scarlett Johansson is reprising her role in this long-awaited solo film.

All we have to do now is to wait for the premiere to see if this theory comes true. And if the movie succeeds and smashes the box office like other MCU movies, which it has a very good chance of doing judging by the trailers and information that have come out, then there's no reason to believe Marvel wouldn't exploit its own inconsistency and minor plot points such as the one discussed above to bring back a beloved character.

Comic book characters coming back to life have a long and illustrious tradition and someone like Black Widow who is portrayed by an actress as prominent as Scarlett Johansson has a very good chance of following that tradition.

Black Widow's alternate last stand in Avengers: Endgame is finally available online on Disney Plus. Before the movie was released, a lot of people expect that some characters would kick the bucket in Endgame, but "Black Widow" Natasha Romanoff was nowhere near the top of the list. This seems to be from a completely different cut of the movie - with a lot of details differs from what the Russo Brothers used in the final cut.

The scene we got in the theatrical version of Endgame was definitely more... personal to both Hawkeye and Black Widow, with them fighting each other for the right to sacrifice so that the others could live to bring back the Soul Stone. Things play out very differently in this original alternate death scene, however - they would arrive on Vormir and get ambushed by Thanos and his army on the way. Taking quite a few blaster shots on the chest, Natasha was reduced to a crawl - however, she still managed to jump off the cliff on time to save Clint Barton, as the Mad Titan Thanos is running up behind him.

This scene is really violent and super unsettling, more action-packed but less emotional - maybe that is the reason the scene was removed. The theatrical version really showed the emotional depth and history between Clint Barton "Hawkeye" and Natasha Romanoff "Black Widow".  Apparently, there was another version with Hawkeye being the one sacrificed as well - but they decided against using it after consulting the opinions of the movie's female crew. According to them, the character of Black Widow deserves this last swan song.

The Black Widow 2020 movie, while being a prequel, is actually a very important movie for the Marvel Cinematic Universe to move forward. It would be the first movie to kick start the fourth phase, post Infinity Saga Era. As we all know, each movie in a phase of Marvel plays a part in crafting the grand overall story and Black Widow, being the first movie of the phase, should be extra important.

However, there are a lot of questions about how Marvel would be able to do it, as the movie is a prequel and the main character is now dead. In this article, we would list out for major ways that Black Widow can impact the MCU's future.

1 - Yelena Belova might become the new Black Widow

The original incarnation of a hero passing the torch to the second generation has always been a pretty popular event in comic book storytelling, despite rarely happen in animated or real movies. We have already seen that in the MCU with Hank Pym training Scott Lang for the role of the Ant-Man. With Natasha Romanoff perished in canon, it looks like the mantle of Black Widow would be taken up by someone else going forward. From what we can gather from trailers, it is very likely to be Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova.

In the comics, Yelena is trained to inherit the Black Widow title, and it certainly looks like the movie version is going to do the same thing. Due to the fact that Yelena trained at the same place and has the same set of skills with the first Black Widow - the overall spy/assassin gist of the character moving forward would remain intact.

2 - More about the history of the MCU - or maybe even a Hulk solo movie

Since her first introduction in Iron Man 2, Black Widow has been consistently shown to be one of the more elusive heroes in the MCU, with her backstory provided only in small doses over various dialogues in multiple movies. In her own solo movie, we can expect that a lot of those teaser dialogues to be expanded upon - we would learn more about her life before she became an Avenger, and maybe even details related to other characters. Black Widow is one of the first characters in the Avenger roster, and she is involved in recruiting almost all of the original lineup - in flashback sequences in her movie, various reveals might happen (an Iron man cameo by Robert Downey Jr. is already confirmed).

In this new movie, it is revealed that Natasha would have some history with Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, a villain that often appears in Hulk's origin stories (the guy was part of the Sokovia/Civil War storyline as well). Thaddeus Ross is also the Red Hulk (a version of Hulk with a different set of power) in the comics, but this is likely not going to be the case in the MCU.

3 - Taskmaster might be a recurring villain

Overall, Taskmaster is one of the cooler villains with an ability to mimic the fighting style/method of other heroes. His "copy ability" photographic reflexes have made the guy one of the best fighters in the Marvel Universe - and it would be a shame to have the guy removed after his first appearance. The "smaller-scale" power is also pretty refreshing and new, as in previous Marvel movies, most villains have world-breaking powers. A badass "supernormal" villain like Taskmaster would be a great addition to this phase and beyond.

Admittedly, given the track record of Marvel Studios, it is very likely that this guy would be a one-off villain and killed after the first appearance. This is actually rather bad for long term developments, as one of the weakest parts in the Infinity War duology is Thanos' group of minor henchmen - they pretty much exist to be defeated and killed by the heroes. There is a lot about Taskmaster that we don't know, even the identity of the actor who's playing the character.

4 - Hawkeye backstory - and maybe a later solo movie

When the Avengers first assembled, they were a rag-tag band of random people united only by necessity - except for two characters, Black Widow and Hawkeye. It was eventually unveiled later on in the movie that these two have a lot of history together. This eventually accumulates and built up to create an awesome climax between them in Avengers: Endgame - Black Widow's struggle to become the one to die for the Soul Stone is one of the most intense and heartbreaking parts of the movie. With the requirement of Vormir being "you have to sacrifice the person you love most", people probably have realized the romantic tension between them.

With Hawkeye being the only original Avenger who hasn't had a solo movie, it is very likely that Black Widow's eventual success would lead to a prequel movie for Hawkeye down the line. It can also tie into the upcoming Hawkeye show that is going to air on Disney Plus as well. As BW 2020 is going to explore the "Red Room", their "Budapest" moment is yet to be depicted on screen - and such an important character-defining moment deserve better.

Disney has just announced about the future of Marvel's next phase of movies - the fourth phase of the MCU would be delayed to at least November 2020. Black Widow, which was supposed to be released in May, is going to replace Eternals on the November 6, 2020 slot.

The Eternals would be shifted to Feb 12, 2021, which was Shang-chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings' slot... Overall, they just take the same slot but switched the movies - this is actually pretty creative, as they would not have to book new timers. These date changes would not affect only the MCU - Mulan, which was supposed to open in March, is postponed to July 24, 2020. Jungle Cruise, the movie in that time slot, is moved to 2021.

Disney is amongst the companies that are severely affected by the coronavirus pandemic - with the whole world put in quarantine, all public entertainment activities are put on hold. This, in turn, leads to the closing down of Disney's various businesses - their theme parks have shuttered, their movie lines have been delayed...

The shift in dates means that Disney is definitely not going to release their movies straight into DVD and streaming services like people was expecting. This is a move to prevent money from getting wasted, as they just can't charge as much on streaming - the theater is where all the money is at. However, some of the smaller movies of Disney would still be moved into Disney Plus, which was released in India just yesterday. The service would be named "Disney+ Hotstar", which is going to be built upon the local streaming service that was acquired from 21st Century Fox last year. Hotstar already has a massive userbase in the country - it would give Disney a massive headstart.

Fans of Marvel’s Comic book movie apparently haven’t seen the last of Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark on the big screen. Before becoming an Avenger, Natasha was trained in “the Red Room”, a training/brainwashing facility that creates female assassins/spy or professional killers. She was saved from this organization by Hawkeye, however, quite a mess was left behind when she departs.

In this movie, Black Widow would come back to where everything started and take down the Red Room, along with its leader, Taskmaster, in order to save others from becoming like her.

2 – Taskmaster

It is actually pretty weird that Marvel picked Taskmaster as the villain for Black Widow’s solo movie, as the guy pretty much shared any history with Black Widow or the Red Room itself. Maybe he was selected because of his power level – with Black Widow being just a normal trained person, anything with a strong superpower would be pretty much out of her league.

Taskmaster’s power is to replicate the fighting style of any character in the Marvel universe, with the power of his photographic memory.

3 – How everything combines together to create a plotline

It is likely that Taskmaster has taken over the red room for himself to create his private assassin army by imbuing all of them with his power. To take them down, Natasha has to assemble her previous team.

4 – Cameo from Tony Stark and other members of the Avenger

With this movie occurring after CA: Civil War, in which Black Widow was on Tony’s side, his cameo is more or less justified. As Hawkeye was another big part of her backstory, we might get to finally know what “Budapest” was all about.

The first and maybe final solo movie of Black Widow has just released its last trailer. Natasha Romanoff played by Scarlett Johansson will get back to her origins – and this time, her mission is to take down a dangerous mercenary who’s recruiting young women to create more combat operators. This would be sort of an origin story for Black Widow – people have been asking Marvel to make a solo movie for her ever since the first Avenger movie. Black Widow 2020 would technically be part of Marvel’s Phase 3, as the events of the movie happen right after Captain America: Civil War.

Natasha/Black Widow is Russian – she was trained as an assassin/spy by a secretive organization known as the Red Room. In a mission, Clint Barton/Hawkeye managed to save and recruit her to SHIELD. Afterward, they joined the Avengers and everything plays out like the movies. Her sacrifice in Endgame for the Soul Stone was partly because of her blood-filled past.

Based on the previous few trailers and the official synopsis of the movie, we can more or less thread together the plot. Natasha would find herself alone and forced to confront her past and deal with the new threat that comes with it.  She would have to reunite with her old team: Alexei Shostakov, aka Red Guardian (David Harbour), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), and Melina Vostokoff (Rachel Weisz) – all expertly trained operatives. The main villain of this movie would be Taskmaster, a dangerous villain capable of mimicking the fighting skills of any opponents due to his photographic memory. The guy is also the boss of the Red Room.

This movie is going to be filled with high octane action from beginning to end, however, everything would be about Natasha’s personal journey. Her character would be redefined after the events of Black Widow. This movie should have been made before Infinity War, not after.

Yesterday, another familiar face has been spotted on the filming set of the upcoming Marvel's Black Widow Movie - that is William Hurt - the 69-year-old actor who plays the role of General “Thunderbolt” Ross in the MCU.

When this news was revealed, many have guessed about General Ross' appearance in the movie will be at the post-credits scene, and about the Thunderbolts project.

General “Thunderbolt” Ross is not the only familiar face that we will see on the upcoming Black Widow Movie, as a recent report from Deadline also mentioned that Robert Downey Jr. would return to his iconic role in the upcoming movie. Along with that, rumors of this have been going around for quite some time given how the setting of the movie can open up room for multiple Marvel characters to make cameos and appearances.

As for Johansson herself, after Black Widow and the MCU, the future was 'wide open' for her. While it seems unlikely that Natasha Romanov will be revived in the future of the MCU - as Johansson has not signed on to any of the MCU-related Disney+ projects and isn't among the confirmed voice cast of the animated What If…? - she was still excited about what's coming, and express her interest in directing new projects. The problem is, according to her, that she hasn't found the right fit for her creative ideal just yet.

Black Widow will be the first movie in Phase 4 of the MCU, which will be available in theaters on May 1st, 2020.

Despite being the movie to kick off the fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Black Widow is actually set right after Captain America: Civil War, before the events of Avengers: Infinity War, meaning it’s basically a prequel instead of a continuation of what we saw in Endgame. And now, we might see Robert Downey Jr. reprising his role as the genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist Tony Stark aka Iron Man in the upcoming movie.

A report from Deadline mentioned that Robert Downey Jr. would return to his iconic role in Black Widow, which is set to hit theaters in May 2020. In fact, rumors of this have been going around for quite some time given how the setting of the movie can open up room for multiple Marvel characters to make cameos and appearances, but they have never been more than that – rumors – until now.

That said, another article from Comicbook claims that Downey Jr.'s appearance in Black Widow might just be a recycled footage, just like what we saw in Spider-Man: Far From Home. There’s a high chance that it’ll be a deleted scene from Civil War, during which Tony told Natasha to run, which is why we saw her with Steve Rogers and the other Secret Avengers in Infinity War. So in short, it’ll be a scene that’s already filmed but has never been used before.

Starring Scarlett Johansson as the titular heroine, Black Widow will also feature David Harbour as Red Guardian – who is basically a Russian Captain America, as well as Florence Pugh and Rachel Weisz. The main antagonist will be Taskmaster, a character possessing "photogenic reflexes" that enables him to quickly mimic the fighting style of his opponents just by observing them, making him an incredibly daunting foe to face.
