Minecraft enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the release of Minecraft 1.20 Trails & Tales, which boasts several significant additions and alterations to the game. During last year's Minecraft Live event, only a few features of this update were showcased, with additional features being announced and released subsequently in later snapshots and betas.
It is expected that the update will be available for download by June 2023, but until then, players can experiment with the update's content by installing betas for Bedrock Edition and snapshots for Java Edition.
In this article, Gurugamer is going to showcase a complete list of all new items in Minecraft 1.20 Trails and Tales update.
1. Brush
A few years back, the Caves & Cliffs update introduced the concept of archeology in Minecraft, which enables players to reveal hidden items in suspicious sand and gravel blocks by using a brush. Copper ingots, feathers, and sticks are the required materials for crafting this brush, which is an essential tool for using the archeology feature.
Brushes, like other tools in the game, have durability points that decrease with use. To obtain a brush with a higher durability, players can repair two brushes by combining them on a crafting table. Additionally, players can apply the enchantments of Unbreaking, Mending, and Curse of Vanishing to their brushes.
2. Pitcher pods and torchflower seeds
Included in this update are two ancient plants, the pitcher plant and the torchflower, which cannot be found growing naturally in the game. Sniffers are capable of excavating pitcher pods and torchflower seeds that can be utilized to cultivate these plants.
Torchflower seeds have an additional practical use in that they can be employed to breed sniffers, which is a crucial function because these creatures are scarce and do not appear naturally in the game. As a result, players will likely find themselves utilizing this feature frequently.
The Pitcher Plant is a plant that originates from the pitcher pod and undergoes four stages of growth before maturing (a total of five stages). When fully grown, it only drops itself upon being broken; otherwise, it drops the pitcher pod. The plant can be converted into two cyan dye through crafting.
The Torchflower is a novel flower variety that develops from torchflower seeds and advances through three growth stages, maturing after the second stage. Despite its name, the flower does not produce any light. When fully grown in the third stage, it only drops itself upon being broken, while in earlier stages, it will drop its seed. The flower can be transformed into an orange dye via crafting and can also be planted in a flower pot. Furthermore, the flower is useful in crafting suspicious stew that provides the player with Night Vision and can be employed to lure and breed bees.
3. Pottery shards
A collection of twenty items known as pottery shards are utilized in crafting decorated pots that feature ornate designs. These items can only be acquired by utilizing a brush to inspect suspicious sand or suspicious gravel blocks.
There is a possibility of obtaining pottery sherds by brushing such blocks discovered in trail ruins, ocean ruins, desert pyramids, and desert wells using a brush. Once the block has been inspected, it will transform into regular sand or gravel, and one of the twenty variants of pottery shards will be dropped.
4. Smithing template
One of the most exciting aspects of the Minecraft Trails & Tales update is the option to add distinctive patterns to armor items, thanks to the new armor trimming feature.
The smithing template is a recently added item that performs two functions: It enables the creation of armor with unique designs and allows players to upgrade diamond items, tools, and weapons to netherite. There are a total of seventeen smithing templates, including the netherite upgrade template and sixteen armor trim templates.
You can find armor trims randomly in the chests of corresponding structures. However, there are a few exceptions. For instance, every treasure room in a bastion remnant guarantees a netherite upgrade smithing template, while every stronghold library chest has one eye armor trim. Elder guardians occasionally drop a single tide armor trim upon their death.
You can also find host, raiser, shaper, and wayfinder trims by brushing suspicious sand and suspicious gravel in Trail Ruins. The rarity of the armor trims affects their generation rate, with some being more common than others. For example, the dune, coast, wild, and sentry trims always generate two templates in a chest when found.
Armor trims are consumed when used to upgrade an item in the smithing table. You cannot craft them directly, but you can create a copy by placing 7 diamonds in a U shape in the crafting grid and putting one block of the material that the template is made out of in the center slot of the crafting grid. Finally, place one smithing template in the remaining top middle slot.
