Potions are powerful consumables in Minecraft that players can use to gain various buffs and effects. Powerful potions such as invisibility or strength could make even hardcore mode a cakewalk.
However, to create potions, you need to prepare a lot of ingredients. In this article, Gurugamer is going to showcase the 10 ingredients to farm for brewing potions in Minecraft.
1. Glistering Melon Slice
Glistering Melon Slice is an inedible item used for brewing potions of healing. Players can loot or craft this ingredient from scratch. They can be found in chests around the Ruined Portals in the Nether. Master-level farmer villagers also sell 3 Glistering Melons for 4 emeralds.
To make a Glistering Melon Slice in Minecraft, open your Crafting Table menu. Place the melon slice in the middle, then surround it with the Gold Nuggets.
2. Nether Wart
Nether Wart is an important ingredient in brewing Awkward Potion. There are two main locations of Nether Wart in Minecraft. You need to harvest this fungus from the wild to plant it in your home garden.
- In nature, you can only farm Nether Warts in Nether fortresses, chests, and certain places, such as near staircases. It's pretty hard to find this rare ingredient. Sometimes, you can loot it from chests.
- Bastion Remnant is another location of Nether Wart in Minecraft wild nature. It often grows in the central courtyard.
3. Gunpowder
To craft a splash potion, you need a potion of any kind and 1 gunpowder then brew them in the brewing stand. Splash potions are thrown by using them. On impact they explode, applying status effects to nearby entities.
Additionally, gunpowder is present in all explosion-related recipes. You can use it to craft Fire Charge, Firework Rocket (essential to use the Elytra), Firework Star, and TNT.
4. Fermented Spider Eye
A fermented spider eye is a brewing ingredient created from spider eye, brown mushroom and sugar. They can be used to brew potions with negative effects except for the Potion of Invisibility.
Spiders and cave spiders have a 1/3 chance of dropping a spider eye when killed by a player or tamed wolf, but not when killed by environmental damage (such as falling). The maximum amount of spider eyes is increased by 1 per level of Looting.
Witches have a chance of dropping 0–6 spider eyes upon death. This is increased by 3 per level of Looting, for a maximum of 0-15 spider eyes.
5. Dragon's Breath
The dragon's breath can be obtained by scooping up the ender dragon's attack residue into an empty bottle by right clicking the pool with the bottle equipped. This means outside of the dangerous process of collecting the breath, players can farm it for as long as they want.
Players can use these breath bottles to craft lingering potions, which creates clouds with status effects that linger on the ground in an area.
6. Ghast tears
Ghast tears are brewing items that players need to create Regeneration potions, one of the most commonly used potions in the game. They can also be used to create Ender Crystals.
Ghasts drop 0–1 ghast tears. Looting increases the maximum ghast tears dropped by one per level, for a maximum of 4 ghast tears with Looting III. Looting also works when knocking back a fireball with an enchanted item.
7. Blaze powder
Blaze rods are items exclusively obtained from blazes. They can be crafted into blaze powder, which acts as an essential ingredient in brewing strength potions.
When killed by a player or tamed wolf, a blaze has a 50% chance to drop a blaze rod. The Looting enchantment can increase the drops by one per level, for a maximum of 4 blaze rods. To farm blaze rods, players just need to locate a blaze spawner in a Nether Fortress.
8. Glowstone Dust
Glowstone is a light-emitting block that occurs in branching structures, found hanging from ceilings and overhangs in the Nether. Glowstone dust is an item obtained from mining glowstone, and is mainly used to create potions with increased strength and decreased duration.
9. Redstone Dust
Players can find Redstone ores generate in the Overworld in the form of blobs. They can be found in levels -63 to 15, the lower the elevation the better. For guaranteed spawn:
- 5 lengths of redstone dust can be found in one type of jail cell room in a woodland mansion.
- 15 lengths of redstone dust are naturally generated as part of the trap in each jungle pyramid.
- Multiple pieces of redstone dust can be found integrated into circuitry in Ancient Cities.
When mining Redstone Ore, players can get 4 or 5 redstone dust (or more with Fortune, averaging at 6 redstone dust with Fortune III). The block drops itself when mined with Silk Touch.
10. Magma Cream
Magma cream is an item used in brewing to create potions of Fire Resistance, and to manually craft magma blocks.
Death to lava is pretty common in Minecraft hardcore, especially when exploring the Nether. Therefore, bringing a fire resistance potion is pretty much a requirement. By using this potion, players will become completely immune to fire and lava damage.
